Milk and eggs whipped together.
Soak bread in it then cook in a pan. Serve with maple syrup (my fav is served with spiced stewed apple, ice-cream/cream and maple syrup) Some will add cinnamon and nutmeg to the egg wash, some sugar I even know someone that adds vanilla. You can do it with any bread (white/multi/brown) but brioche or raisin bread IMO is the best. Now I want some |

As the above PP said... but I've never heard of having it sweet. I had it a lot growing up and it was always sprinkled with salt when cooked.

I've heard of having it sweet, but only sprinkled on a little bit of salt. I never add milk, just whisk two eggs for two pieces of bread, which must be white. Our family wasn't very fancy, we just called it Bread dipped in egg! |

My kids love French toast.
Egg and milk mixed together.... Dip slice of bread into it ad fry in pan... We sprinkle a little salt and pepper on it... |

I was in a cafe in Perth a few years ago having breakfast with a friend. She needed to go to the loo, so I said I would order her breakfast. She wanted vegemite on turkish.
The waitress came and I ordered my breakfast and then my mates. The waitress replied 'we don't have turkish, we have french though.' I didn't think much of it - just assumed she meant french bread. No. My friend was served french toast (with maple syrup) and a side of vegemite. Has turkish bread made it to Perth yet? |
