My DD1 has been asking for pretty ears like Mummies on & off for the past few months... Her friend is having Hers done tomorrow & I want to get Amelias done at the same time... She is 2y6mths!

What is peoples opinions?

Is she too young? She is very 'grown up' for her actual age... She is very indepent! Goes to the toilet on her own, dress' herself & so on...

When they are older enough to care for their ears and new piercings and keep them clean and when they express an intrest in getting them done. just personal opinion

Little girls shouldn't get their ears pierced until they've grown up, and hold their very own driver's licence and job. Then they can drive to the piercing joint of their choice, and pay for it.

Your little girl is beautiful. She doesn't need holes in her head to improve her looks.

Besides, she's 2yo. She's not remotely capable of making that decision.

When they are old enough to understand what's involved, that it is permanent and can take care of them themselves.

For DD1 that was her 9th birthday. IMO that was an OK age and earlier than that, I doubt she would have fully understood how permanent they are and I would have had to keep reminding her to take care of them and to clean her ears every day.

Also keep in mind that the younger a child has their ears pierced, the higher the chance they will develop metal allergies which means they won't be able to wear jewellery later in life. There is also the chance that the hole will move as the ear lobes grow, so doing it young can mean that as an adult, the hole is in entirely the wrong spot.

When you're old enough to pay for it yourself! I expect that means about 15ish, as we don't plan on giving pocket money etc.

DD1 (5 in November) wanted them until I described exactly what was going to happen and that it'd hurt. Whenever she wants something on her ears now, when playing dress-ups, she uses stickers

Personally, I think your daughter is too young.

For us it's 12 years old. That age might be reevaluated in the future, but 12 is what we've agreed on so far.

When she's 16. Or at least that's how it is with my youngest. Didn't get the chance with eldest daughter, as my ex monster in law took her out and got them done against my wishes... *stabs voodoo doll*

Really???!?

I had my ears pieced when I was a month old, I have terribly large ears and earring just brought more attention to them. I wouldn't wear earrings now except that I have holes and they look worse than the earrings.
