developing equanimity
I am officially a horrible parent. Everyone here likes a sleep in except DD1 (almost 6) who is up at 6am. So I have put my iphone in her room, put a drink bottle with milk and a vegemite scroll in the fridge and told her when she gets up tomorrow she can eat, drink and be merry (play games on the iphone). NEVER thought I would do it but I really need a sleep in and DD2 (almost 5) will sleep till 8 so hhhmmm wonder how long the iphone games will work - sooner or later than mother guilt kicks in?

Is that horrible?

I'm sure I've read that as a solution for the incurable early birds. you give them a snack to tide over to breakfast and ask them to play quietly. Or is it the iphone bit that makes it bad? unsure.gif

Mum to two boys!! :O
If you are then I am too! DS1 (nearly 6 as well) has for the last year or so known that he is not to wake us up til 7am. He used to make his own breakfast but now he just plays or reads until its time to wake us up. If DS2 is awake he climbs into his cot and reads him stories or they play games. original.gif

Not bad, just resourceful!

Bad would be putting a lock on her door and telling her she won't be let out of her room until a reasonable hour!

I used to be an early riser as a child.... at 6 I got my own breakfast (cereal), took it back to bed, and read books.

BTDT, except with TV and breakfast. I think most of us do it once they're big enough.

Enjoy your sleep-in!

This is a Formal Cheese occasion.
I've started leaving DD's breakfast out on the counter (cornflakes in a bowl, covered in glad wrap, with a piece of fruit) and the milk in a cup in the fridge, also covered. DD and I ducked into work yesterday and she proceeded to tell my collegues that she "had to make her own breakfast now because I'm old enough." Thanks kid.

I think you have done good to last this long before doing it!!

My DD7 and DS4 have been getting up and turning the telly on and helping themselves to a drink and breakfast for a while now. But I am back to getting up now with the baby. But am looking forward to the day I can do my slack parent mornings again!!
