So just watching some stupid afternoon tv and that ad for the Your Baby Can Read system came on.

It got me wondering, are there entrance exams for Kindy now that I am unaware of? Are people actually looking to get their toddlers early entrance into Uni? Why do babies need to be able to read? WHY?

Sorry but this is right up there on my list of pointless things.

What's on your list of pointless things?

I think baby sign language is a bit nuts too. I just don't get it. Can't you just wait until they are ready to communicate with you?

haha. My FIL must have seen that advertised and told me all about it! Useless.

What I think is also useless - baby wipe warmers! I LOL'd and rolleyes.gif when I saw these in the shop one day

Sign language was a blessing to me - DD1 was signing for eat, drink and sleep at 8 months, she didn't really start talking till 2 years. Her signing solved so many issues as she could let me know what she needed. Can't wait for DD2 to start it makes life so much easier especially when you're confusing sleep with hunger or pain

I nominate

'waterproof baby carrier' (like a baby bjorn) for carrying baby into the water or beach

and the fold up toddler sized toilet seat, for when your are out and about with your toilet training toddler...

As for the baby sign language - I did think that was quite unnecessary.

Now, though, DD is 22 months and largely non-verbal - and can't see that changing any time soon - if we had done actual signing from a young age, perhaps things might be a bit easier at the moment.

Though, she does make herself understood quite well mostly - just would have been nice to have some set signs.

Another thing I love - great for public toilets for hygiene reasons mostly as my daughter will use her hands on the toilet to balance herself otherwise, she also has an issue about icky toilets and smells.

Wipes warmer is definitely one thing that I think is silly

I saw the exact same ad on the weekend and thought can't they just be babies when they're babies ??? Why do they need to read at 3 ?

FWIW my DD2 is 5 and in kindy and is starting to recognise some of her Magic 100 Words in books we read at night - it is so exciting for me and her.
