Hi everyone Just started taking temp a week ago so I have a whole 8 days to work with here Was starting to look at my temps for clues about being preg or not, then I realised I didnt even know what I was meant to do with the results! All I had read so far was to look out for temperature changes, it tells you when you are ovulating....but I have only taken temp since about when I O'd so I dont know if my temp is high or low, whether its stable.....I guess I was expecting it to vary more! I havent read anything that says what high temp, or drop in temp, or dip in temp actually means in real numbers....or is it just an individual thing? So, the first day I took my temp was tuesday, I think I O'd tuesday or weds according to OPK. Temps have been : 36.4 (last tuesday), then 36.4, 36.1, 36.4, 36.8, 36.7, 36.7, 36.7 (today). Can anyone tell me what, if anything, this means? I've been reliable and consistent with taking temp first thing in the morning, same time etc. Is one decimal place enough on the thermometer? Are these temps normal? high? low? I really have no idea what I am doing or what to look out for help?!

the day when the temp went up to 36.8 could be considered the first high temp, and then it stayed up for three consecutive days. So it means you Ovulated on the day before that when it was 36.4, at the latest. Some might say you even o'd the day before, since it went up from a nice low drop of 36.1 to 36.4. But I'd say you def O'd on the day of 36.4 at the latest. I think your temps look good to me from the few we've got to go by. You are not going to have much of an idea of PG temp patterns for some time yet If I were you, I'd test on the morning of when you have had 12 high temps. If it were me, I'd be saying 36.8 was the first 'high temp'. If you go to Fertility Friend, they have online tutorials etc on all aspects of charting. I have been charting for about 8 years now, but am only just new to Fertility Friend, and I really do find them EXCELLENT Re the one decimal place. Most on here disagree, and certainly two decimal places is obviously more accurate, but I learned from a small team of fertility specialists years ago, and they taught me one decimal place. The rise needs to be a minimum of .2 degrees celsius, and the thermometre they gave me only went to one decimal place. However now I have a new thermometer which does go to 2 decimal places, and since I'm using FF, I'm using two. All the best. You'd come to the right place in here, there are some well informed ladies. But I'd spend some time in FF too. HTH

I agree with Meg. According to your temps, you didn't Ovulate until Thursday, maybe Friday.
What days did you get a positive OPK on? That would help to pinpoint O.
Also, definitely have a look at Fertility Friend - you can just plug your data in, and FF will pick O day - and is pretty accurate mostly.
I like a 2 d.p thermometer, but really you are just looking for a clear shift, and looks like you can see that on your 'chart' (pre O temps of low 36, post O temps of high 36) so you might not need a new thermometer.
As for what temps are good - we all vary, so that's a hard one. You have a definite thermal shift though, so just keep hoping for sustained high 36 temps.
Good luck!

QUOTE (**Mel** @ 06/04/2011, 11:36 AM) I agree with Meg. According to your temps, you didn't Ovulate until Thursday, maybe Friday. i dont agree- 36.4- 36.7 it could easily have been your "trifasic shift" but with the opk's as well i'd say it was wednesday with the 36.1 there is no way of knowing for sure without pre o temps to compare to temping now without before is pretty useless execpt for forming your habit well for next month and if your temps are anythign like mine ( which frankly they dont look it) a 2dp thermom is necessary because i'm such a cold person with whacked out hormones my 1dp charts are flat lines with an occasional dip or rise then back into the flat lines again if i didnt temp 2dp i'd never get ff to pinpoint o it just wouldnt show and there is no such thing as a 'good temp" everyone is different if i had your post O temps i'd know for sure i was PG because i just dont get that high but that doesnt mean anything for you, and you have no data to compare with so no way to tell GL

QUOTE (Meg1000 @ 06/04/2011, 02:12 PM) it's fiddley without a chart, but I thought she meant she started Tuesday at 36.4, then another 36.4 on Wed, and then down to 36.1 on the Thursday. lol, I drew her chart on my notepad here at work! God, I need to get a life. As you say Meg, I think she had two 36.4's (tues, wed) then a drop to 36.1 (on thurs) OP, go and get FF and link your chart so we can all stalk it without confusion! LOL

Yep - this! thanks much guys - overwhelmed at how much effort people will put in to posts (thanks meg1000 for the first one, very informative) and how much interest people will take! I had the positive OPK on the tuesday. Am super busy next few days but if you bear with me I will take a few more temps and chart them properly. Thanks SO much and sorry to cause an internet debate this is what happens when I am away from a PC for 24 hours
