The very quick birth of Chelsea Ann Keegan

Well saturday 12th March 2011 and i go to bed early as i had just a horrid emotional day. Wake up after half an hour and DH has just come in to bed. Bubs is moving around heaps and i cannot go back to sleep so get up and put the tv on. After about an hour i notice my contractions are starting to ramp up a bit so i think i better grab a pen and start timing these. It was 11pm by now. I am getting contractions fairly regularly 3-5 mins apart and about 30-40 sec in length. At midnight i wake DH and say - ok i think you better get up its happening. He gets up and puts DD in the car and drives to our friends house to drop her off. In the meantime i have a quick shower and phone the hospital at 1245am to tell them whats happening and the contractions are 3 mins apart lasting 40-60secs by now. The hospital says come in and we will check you. DH gets home and off we go and arrive at the hospital at 1.30am. We are set up in a room they had ready for us and the midwife is checking bubs position by palpatating my stomach and she says i'm not sure if thats the head down there.....better get an u/s machine. She goes off and gets a doc and the machine and they check bub and she is head down - yay! So its 2.30am when she does the first internal and my contractions are ramping up now. She says you are 4-5 cm dilated so i'm going to break your waters. Fine. I then jump in the shower to help with the pain while they have sent for the anaesethist to organise an epidural. I get out of shower and i can feel a lot of pressure down below. The doc comes in to put in the canular for the epidural and i jump off the bed and say oh my gosh i need to push! The mw says get back on the bed i need to check you first. I have this huge pushing sensation overtake my body and i manage to get back on the bed and suck on some gas. She says you are about 8-9cm and bubs is right there - we are about to deliver! 3 pushes and some panting (to try and stop me tearing) and bubs is out! So from the time she broke my waters to bub being born was 47mins!

It was crazy and very very quick. So different from the first time when i had an epidural and it took 10 and a half hours all up to this time being 3 and a half all up!

So there you go....when she was ready to come she came fast!

and a couple of pics...
