Hi all,

I am booked in to have the LLETZ procedure in hospital in a few weeks as I have abnormal cells on my cervix (cin3) and I am now getting nervous about being awake for it. I was given the option of being put under a general anesthetic or being awake and having it performed in the outpatients clinic. I chose not to be put under as it's only a few days before christmas and the recovery time is minimal.

So far I have been told by everyone I am crazy for not choosing the general anesthetic and am so worried I have made the wrong choice. I was hoping that I might be able to get some positive feedback from those that have actually had the LLETZ done? Also will I be able to resume normal activities, nothing heavy but just the usual day-to-day things during that mad last-minute christmas rush?

Thanks original.gif

Hi, I had LLETZ done about 2 years ago due to CIN2. I had a general anaesthetic, so can't comment about the twilight sedation, but I was completely fine afterwards, I had to wait in recovery for a few hours, have some food, then was discharged. We went shopping on the way home and brought a new camera!! I went to bed early that night, but was perfectly fine the next day. I had a little bit of light bleeding for a few days, but only had to wear a liner. I didn't have any pain or anything like that.

Good luck, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

Sorry, I can't be of any help but just wanted to wish you all the best. I may need to have this done down the track. I also had abnormal cells with my last smear but specialist wants to see me in 6 months first.

I have had this done 3 times due to CIN3 but had a general each time, so I can't comment on having it done under sedation. It was a long time ago and I can't really remember a lot but went in at 7am in the morning and was home by 2-3pm in the afternoon. I think I had a few days off work and that was about it. I did have a D&C performed a few years ago after a late miscarriage a few days before Xmas and I was physically ok to do last minute shopping a little tender but not too bad. Mentally not so good, so probably hard to know how much was physical pain and how much was grief.

Good Luck with it all

I had it done about 8 years ago but like bubs10 was under a general. I don't think I was given an alternative. It didn't take very long and was home that afternoon. There was a little bleeding for a couple of days but no pain.

To be honest I would take the general as I think they "burn" away the cells so it may not smell very good and might freak you out more.

Good luck with it all, hope the next result is a an all clear.

I had this done too, about 5 years ago, maybe more.
I went under for it.
I was sore afterwards, for about a week, like period pain, nothing some nurofen plus didn't fix.
The anaesthetic did knock me about a bit, just a bit dopey and tired.
Can you still chose to go under?

Black with white stripes, not white with black stripes.
I had this done about 5 years ago, but was also under a GA.

Very slight spotting for a day or two afterwards and from memory, a tiny bit of mild cramping but it didn't last long. It didn't stop me from doing anything.

Good luck. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I've had a LLETZ and a Cone biopsy, both under GA. My recovery time was minimal, I rested that afternoon and the next day I was back to normal. I didn't bleed at all after either.

Good luck, and I hope it all goes well.
