I have lots of photos of my children on Facebook, however they are in my private, actually very private account, and unless you are my friend, you can't see them. I dont have a picture of myself of my kids as a profile picture, and unless you message, me you can't even open my FB account.

I dont see a problem with showing off my children to those that I love, my dearest frriends and family.

I have decided that my current sig (due for replacement any day now) will be the last one of my older child.

I hope we will still get to enjoy your gorgeous boy on FB.

I think I'm overly paranoid about online privacy because I've been stalked in the past & it was an extremely traumatic event. If it wasn't for that, I'm sure I would be a lot more relaxed.

I feel about my children's photos on the internet the same as I do about exposing them in real life when I walk down the street with them, enrol them in swimming classes, join them up to the library or answer questions about them to the tax dept or Family Assistence.

I don't understand what harm there is in it. We are not rich and famous with children who would make someone a profit by being photographed , published or kidnapped.

I have a lot of photos both on facebook and flickr of my DD. My Mum lives hours away, so she likes to see photos of her only grandchild often!!

I have no problems with it.

I am however guarded with what I write here, there are certain things that I wouldn't discuss. Generally if I wouldn't discuss it with my family/friends, then I won't write it here.

My children sign a release form that was drafted by their solicitor. It is reviewed every six months.

I like it.

I don't post naked pictures of them, I don't put my surname or theirs up. Someone would have to be bloody determined to track my area down and then randomly manage to find my kids and call their names. Facebook is friends only and on here I don't put lots of photos up.

I think I'm being fairly sensible.

I think people overshare way too much in the Internet, but not so much photos but personal information, financial information and some stuff that you just don't want to know about some people. A lot of people on here share links to their facebook accounts (incl full name and whatever profile information is public) instead of uploading a photo to somewhere else, and that's something I wouldn't do.

However, I also think people are getting rampantly paranoid. While I've stopped using pics of my kids in my sig (mostly for the same reason sassm did), I think there are probably worse things that can happen than having the world know your name and what you look like. And there's probably a much greater chance that some pervert will photograph my kids at the beach without my knowledge, than the off chance of them taking photos of mine off the internet for personal use.

I would never put my childrens photos or dates of birth on here but I do on Facebook and that's because my privacy settings are set to as private as possible. I'm always amazed at how many people don't make their profiles private.

I agree with Husband1.0.
I don't have any images of my daughter anywhere on the net and I don't ever plan to. If anyone wants to see her..family etc then I might email a photo direct to them and thats it.
I have facebook but don't even have a profile picture up of myself...yep, I am weary of of the big WWW and how I keep hearing that once images are up then you cannot get them down. ( I also may be wrong!)

SASSM- that is very considerate attitude to have with your son...I just don't get the consensus that 'because they are my kids, I pushed them out, I can do what I want with them' attitude.

I've tried Googling myself and nothing shows up either. I'm thankful I have a common name.

Lucky you! I have a whole bunch of articles and what have you... I make it to over 2 pages!

I have never put my OWN picture on the web (facebook et. al.) though... I try and forget all the 'professional mel' stuff exists.

I can't comment on anything to do with children though.. Husband1.0 has already informed me I am not qualified to do that.

That's something i had not considered even though it is actually that i do. I am a very happy with the camera... and email my parents and parents in law (+ unlces and aunties) heaps of pictures of the kids. If they ask they can even get a large framed print or the higher res image. It is probably the most private (and practical) way to share online.

So why do the facebookers go nuts on facebook when there is a private way to share?
Seriously, i don't get this need to have your kids/life published!
