I was talking about my cravings with someone today and the first thing she did was guess the gender of my baby. I have gone off coffee & chocolate (im a massive chocoholic and am thinking it's my body saying no to caffine) and I'm leaning towards foods like plain toast, baked beans, pasta etc. My theory was that that's what my body wants to minimise morning sickness.

According to the myths & old wives tales, craving sweet means a girl, craving salty means a boy. Was this the case for you or do you think it's a load of bull?

I should add, with DS1 I didn't crave anything and with DS2 I couldn't get enough milk!

Hmm...

I went off coffee and chocolate early on in my pregnancy and even now I don't love chocolate as much as I used to. I guess I prefer salty to sweet at the moment, but I am having a girl (unless the scan has it wrong - hopefully not!).

ETA - To answer your question though, I think it's a load of bull. Tounge1.gif

At different times I've craved different things.
I think it's all just a bit of fun. shrug.gif I haven't found that I crave salty more than anything else and we're having a boy.

Im not a huge believer in this sort of stuff. I had to laugh (on the inside of course) when a lady at work said she thought I was having a boy because "I was carrying low" ... but this was when I was not even showing!!!! (12 wks original.gif)

My sister did have bad morning sickness when she had both of her girls, and zilch when she had her boy....so going on that theory - I am having a girl (we aren't finding out)

It's absolutely a load of bull. However, the adage was true for me- I'm a massive sweet tooth and pre-pregnancy I would have eaten chocolate at least once a week. During my entire pregnancy I ate chocolate maybe twice! I ate massive amounts of savoury foods, though... and I did have a boy (it had to be one or the other!).

My war paint is Sharpie ink
I craved meat ... turns out my iron levels were too low. I think sometimes cravings can be genuine messages from your body, but it's very hard to distinguish those from plain old bad habits.

With both my boys I craved sweet things - it was nothing for me to polish off a family-sized packet of smarties or two per week.

This time around, I've preferred savoury things, though we don't know the gender of our baby yet - give me a couple of days and I'll get back to you!

With my pregnancies, my cravings have been the opposite! So I think it's just all myth!
