The hand that rocks the cradle is the one that rules the world
DS2 is 15mths old and he has been walking about 2mths. I thought it was time to buy him a pair of shoes so I bought a pair of Tip Toey Joey pre walker sandals and fit perfectly. There is one problem, he hates shoes! I put them on him and stood him up and he cried and cried and cried. I'm talking full on red in the face omg what are you doing to me tears running down his cheeks crying. His never worn shoes before so how do I ease him in to the idea of wearing them? I feel bad! But he needs to wear shoes now as he might cut his foot or who knows!

I did try a couple of times but he crawls away crying. I'm lost for words actually! huh.gif

I'd back off for a week or two and leave the shoes around where he can reach them and check them out and have a bit of a play around with them. When he does agree to wearing them, make a big fuss of it even if he only wears them for a few minutes. You could also try putting the shoes on a teddy or dolly and make a fuss of them wearing shoes.

Thanks, I will leave them around in the lounge room where his toys are.

Oh boy, DS is doing exactly the same thing OP!
Everytime i put them on he screams like they are lined with tacks! Same as you, they fit fine, he just doesn't like the feel i guess.

Will try Big M's suggestions, and may try putting them on for just a very short time each day (like seconds, and take them back off before he cracks!)

Has anyone else helped their toddler through this?

Does he already wear socks? I would get him used to wearing socks and then maybe thicker socks (which will also give his feet some protection when you are out, though they will get ruined in the process) before putting shoes on him.

Also make a big deal of it when you put your shoes and socks on. Tell him how great it is to wear shoes, get him to bring you your shoes and socks and help you to put them on, and so on. He wants to do the things you do, so if he notices you wearing shoes, he is more likely to want to wear shoes himself.
