Congrats Beebee eexcite.gif

Sorry girl's been MIA... haven't caught up yet.

We have had bad news, Chris had a gallstone attack out on ICT & has now been removed from the training. He needs a OP asap & their looking at next Friday. But he now needs to plead his case to stay on & be back classed until Jan 2011. It's not looking very good as he knew about the gallstones just before swearing in (but after being accepted here at RMC), but choose not to tell them about it as our Dr said he wouldn't be able to have them removed for possibly a year & should be fine on ICT if he watched his diet. He said people can go years without an attack. Anyway they have put him on NCC (national cadet core) which means working on odd jobs around the base until he can plead his case. if successful we will get to stay & he will do NCC until Jan 2011. If not we'll have to leave unsure.gif

CONGRATULATIONS BEEBEE cclap.gif eexcite.gif

That is one bit of news that I wont be announcing again and if I do it will be ddoh.gif OOPS!! then possibly a cry1.gif and down the track a laughing2.gif however if there was an oops baby I am sure I would get over the shock sooner or later and then be wub.gif hheart.gif

I never got back to the earlier thread to read for personals. Will try harder to actually reply before the thread closes.

Went to Target toy sale - didnt spend as much as thought altho' the sale is still on so who is stopping me going back - possibly my purse/bank account. I did buy the childcare capri hi-lo high chair which I had a blonde moment when it came to assembling but I got there. DP asked if I needed help but he made me rant.gif prior to me coming home with it so determined to do it myself.

Sometimes I feel like I should have a ball and chain around my ankle. Every week Thursday we have social mothers group at the same place which I enjoy - and my only bit of social activity away from home. A lot of the thursdays he has had a job on and not been a problem but last too he has had no job on. It goes until we ready to leave and for me normally only stay 2-3hrs - well because the official parenting group sessions only went for an hr I think these would be the same and so I must be up to no good - his insecurities come out every so often and it really rant.gif me off. I dont have time to be on the search for a new partner, even if I wanted a new one which I dont. As for DTD it the very last thing on my mind or priority list so not about to go out and play with fire anyway.

Vent over. but well altho yes I will miss him ddance.gif I get a reprieve for about 4-5 days really soon..sounds not nice but to be able to actually cook tea when I want tea, not feel guilty about sitting up having ME time when he has gone to bed earlier than me is a luxury for me sometimes.

We tried Amber in big bath again, first few times she got a bit scared but the last two nights I jumped in there with her and she seemed to start to like the big bath - splashing about. DP still baths her I just am in there to keep her company and to assist holding her up. Do have a bath aide to lay her on but it doesnt look practical when i used it the other day on my own.

Sorry bout the ME post but like I said will try and get back in here regularly to post so can keep up with everyone.

Off to fill some bottles up for o.night before hitting bed myself.

IM PREGNANT!!!!!!

What happy happy news! I'm so excited for you.

Everything is the same here sleepwise. There's a bit more vocal experimentation RAR RARR RARRRRRRRRR, anybody? And the raspberries continue but apparently there's something special about my nipple that makes blowing raspberries extra fun.

I missed the start of the new thread and thought you'd all gone off the edge of the earth.

Just a quick one for Heidi - I had my gall bladder out many ears ago (when I was 19) as I had LOTS of big gallstones and was getting regular attacks (I really sympathise with Chris because they hurt like hell!!!) once the attacks started I had to get it out ASAP.
My surgery was done via 'keyhole' and I healed up really very quickly (I have 4 'Keyhole' scars but they are barely visible now and the biggest one is about 2cms long) - they cut through your tummy muscles obviously so it's a bit hard to sit up from laying down for a little while (and I also looked pregnant because I couldn't hold my stomach in for about 2 weeks). But all in all it wasn't a big deal.
Just tell him, that no matter what a doctor or surgeon says to him you DO have to watch your diet after it comes out for at least a few months while your body learns to live without it! Basically avoiding having lots of dairy and anything too fatty (my surgeon told me this wasn't necessary and so I went back into eating my normal diet and anytime I had something too fatty or lots of dairy I felt really ill and I have since been told this is the norm.
I am back to eating completely normally now though original.gif

I hope he is successful in pleading his case and you guys get to stay!!!

Our routine/day is pretty similar Nikinoo, Zoe will be 7mo tomorrow, OMG oomg2.gif i just realised that, how time flies!

7am - wake and BF
8am - breakfast
9am - sleep
10-11am - wake (this is usually when we run errands/have dd1s swimming/mums group so i cut her nap short a lot of the time)
11am - FF, usually about 100-120mls
12/12:30pm - lunch
1pm - sleep
3pm - wake & BF
5pm - dinner
6pm - bath
6:30pm - BF then top off with FF about 80mls is all she'll take atm
7pm - bed
9:50pm - dreamfeed with formula, 150mls. we are gradually decreasing the amount and making this feed earlier to get rid of it altogether. when she wakes or i wake her at 7am she hasnt been taking both boobs so i assume she doesnt really need all that DF anymore.
sleep till 7am - although she frequently wakes once or twice a night she only has a couple of call outs/talks to her self for 10-20mins and then goes back to sleep. i only go in if she is really winding up cause i dont want her waking dd1.

i know it looks very regemented but it works for us, and dont worry i dont sit looking at the clock. i like having both girls in bed between 1-3pm and if the morning isnt somewhere near this routine then i can kiss that quiet time goodbye.

so thats us! niki, and anyone else FFing, how much formula are they drinking per feed?

xx V

Routine
We really only have a routine for the mornings and the evenings. The rest of the day just 'happens'. This is good in that it means Liam's 'routine' isn't disrupted if we have to go out during the day. But bad in that some days he barely gets any sleep between 7am and 7pm. Liam is only a youngin though (6 months last Monday)

6:30 - 7am-ish - Wake, offer feed, quiet play (No loud toys, no exciting rhymes)
8am - Day starts, shower with Daddy
8:15 - I eat breakfast. He used to play in his bouncer in that time, now he plays by himself on the floor.
----
Day includes
-- 'Spoon-fed meal' - Usually around morning Tea time
-- At least one 1hr walk (two if I can manage)
-- I aim for 2 40+min naps. They usually fall around 10am and 2pm
-- Liam feeds every 2 hours (approx) throughout the day. He can go for 3.5 hours if he is having fun and today cried for a feed after only an hour.
-----
5:15ish - Daddy home.
5:30 - Liam plays with Daddy while I get dinner organised and complete housework
6:15 - Offer feed. (I do this so he doesn't get fussy as we eat dinner)
6:30 - Dinner (Liam sits in the high chair with a rusk and some finger food)
7:30ish - Start nighttime routine. Which involves saying goodnight to everyone in the house, me repeating "Time for Bed" (Mem Fox), Nappy Change, Baby Massage, then into PJs and sleeping bag and back to the couch for final feed. (Saying goodnight to everyone in the house also reminds them not to make any loud noises)
9pmish - Liam goes to bed
2amish - He wakes for a feed (Usually between 1:30am and 4am)

beebee - Congratulations!!! That is so exciting! I'd like my kids to be close in age, but I am not ready to go again yet. (I am still breastfeeding though, so it is sort-of a moot point).

ALM - Sorry to hear about DP being a pain. Good work on putting the high chair together.

hedistar - Bad news about Chris' gallstone attack! I wish you success in pleading your case.

Mumsy4 - Hope that Lila's nose cleared up and you got to go to your party. Part of me can't wait for Liam to start taking a bottle (or sippy cup) again so I have the option of going out. Right now he is pretty much chained to me. I hear you on the supply issues though. I am trying to express a bit to mix with the Farex each day, but I am not getting much.

Solids - I gave up (or gave in) on the BLW. I really wanted to do just BLW but it was becoming obvious it wasn't working. I had both MIL and my Mum hinting that I should start solids (they have been doing that since 4 months). SIL (who is a dietician) also mentioned that I should start. And the child nurse I saw for the 6 month checkups made me feel like I was starving Liam as I wasn't spoon feeding him.
However, none of their opinions were the reason I started spoon feeding him. He has gone from 75th percentile for weight to the 50th percentile while still at the 90th percentile for height. So I figured I better do more than just give him some food to play with.
My solution is to spoon feed him a meal around my morning tea time. Currently we are starting with Farex and EBM but I plan to add in some mushed fruits to that too. Then he still has a 'dinner' of vegetables (carrot, cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potato) as finger foods which he does BLW. I am pretty sure he ate some carrot yesterday, but only half a teaspoon or so, not enough to make any difference.
He has taken to the spoon feeding, though he likes to be involved. At one stage I put the spoon close to his mouth and he used his hand to scrape off the Farex and put it into his mouth. At another he had a mouth full of Farex then decided to grab his foot and put it into his mouth (needless to say, his socks needed a wash after that).

Even though I have had to spoon feed, I am still very pleased I went BLW. I had a dinner/meeting last Wednesday night with my boss (or he will be when I return to work). Liam sat at the restaurant table entertained for over an hour with a rusk, his sippy cup, a few vegetables from my meal and the general activity going on. I credit that, in part, to the fact that he sits with us each night as we have dinner. So he is used to it.

Teeth - Liam cut his second tooth this morning. I have a pic of his mouth taken at 9am (just 1 tooth) and another taken at 12:30 (2 teeth!). Poor little guy didn't have a good morning. I don't know whether it is related to the teething or not but he seems to be feeding/sleeping most of the day (only wanting to sleep on the breast ... mind you ... but sleeping nevertheless).

It could also be that this is the first time in 3 weeks that it has just been him, DH and me... We did a week and a half holiday to both sets of his grandparents ... then my Mum came down for a week as DH was away for that week. So it has all been a bit disruptive for him. It should start settling down on Wednesday (my parents are due again sometime tomorrow for 0-2 nights).

OK. I better get some sleep ... after I clean up the high chair...

Well that's why I took him to the health nurse for a check up cos sometimes he only has 80ml... He has never had 240ml like recommended on the formula tin! The nurse said this is bcos he was BF for 5 months and his tummy wasn't used to holding big amounts like this as a baby who is FF from birth. He was on S-26 Gold and that fills them up more due to extra vitamins or iron, just on normal S-26 now
We are also meant to offer dessert to get extra calories in to replace the low intake of milk. She also said she wouldn't want him to have more than 700ml from 5 bottles if he has 3 meals...
But apparently this is normal when they start solids and he usually gets between 500-750ml.
I, too, am thinking of cutting out that dream feed cos when he wakes in the morning that's usually the least amount of milk he drinks?? Bit scared though incase I have to feed him overnight!! He hasn't had an overnight feed for prob aver a month Tounge1.gif

Kat - can't believe Liam got another tooth so quick oomg2.gif Poor little guy!!!!

Thanks for the congrats everyone - Feeling very very crappy the last week or so it has not been pleasent.

Max cut another tooth over the weekend now too. So now he has one of the front bottom teeth and also the one of the front top teeth, Very very strange. It will look pretty funny if the others dont pop up soon.

This is a general day with Max's routine (He is pretty easy going but we have a few sleeping issues). He is 7months on Wed!!!!!

Wakes @ 7am
Bfast soon after
Then we are off to FDC or Nana's or we stay home
Plays till 9.30am approx
9.30-10am Bottle - Never more than 150ml
10-10.30am Bed - Is generally a cat nap 30-40min
play
lunch @12ish - He will have some spoon fed food then some finger food
Play
2pm bottle - Never more than 150ml
Sleep - Usually 1hr - 2hr
arvo tea 2pm
Play
3-5pm he might take about 50ml in this period
5.30pm - veges
6.15pm - bath
6.30pm - pj's on, story etc
6.45pm - bottle and bed
7.15pm - Will generally be asleep by this time

Now this is where the sleeping problems start

He wakes 45mins after going to sleep most of the time. If he has had over 150ml at the 6.45pm bottle then i will try and pat him back off but this rarely works and he wants some more milk to re-settle.

Wakes approx 10.30pm - drinks 100ml-150ml
Wakes approx 1.30am - drinks 100ml-150ml
Wakes approx 5am - drinks 100ml - 150ml

and awake @ 7pm

It is obvious he is trying to catch up on his milk intake during the night which I kind of feel like I cant deny him because i know he wont drink much during the day. He is a squirmer during the day and quite painful to feed, always has been and has never taken the required intake. This use to really bug me and i never felt like i could get him in to the eat, play sleep routine because he use to only take 60-80ml per feed. Now he takes generally around 120ml per feed which still sux as well.

We had a pead appoint a few weeks back and he suggested adding an extra scoop to his bottles but i am yet to do that as yet. He warned it will probably make him constipated and I am just not keen. Vicki - We had massive problems with constipation early on and he was also put on lactulose but it didnt do anything for him either. But saying that he has only put on 100g in the last 4 weeks. I think he is 8.1kg now but I can not remember his length.

So on our bad days I sit here wondering how the hell i can get him out of waking so often. How can i teach him to self settle. He wont take a dummy and will only let us pat him sometimes.

Other days I think he will just grow out of it when hes ready (my heart sinks though when i then read about 2yr olds that are still waking overnight).

Wow that was a mammoth post sorry about that. If anyone wants to come over and be supernanny to max and teach him how he should be sleeping at night it would be very appreciated.

Sorry Beebee, but I think Max and Rowan have been talking behind our backs. Both are doing the same. Drives me slightly insane.

I think I will try giving him a dream feed about 9 pm and see if that makes a difference. He currently wakes at some time between 9.30 and 10.

We really don't have a routine, so I can't share ladies, but generally, he has a sleep after about 2 or 2.5 hours awake. Then sleeps for 4- -45 minutes, so we do this about 4 times. Often, I feed him to sleep because he is so distracted he won't eat any other time. Still wrapped and I am incredibly reluctant to change that.

I've read in two different places that you should try and avoid night feeds after 6 months, and I'm really curious about it. Surely there isn't a switch that goes off? I am reluctant to do that if he isn't eating enough during the day, and I know he is. Nappies are nowhere near as wet during the day, but saturated at night.

Sorry for ignoring others, Beebee just caught my eye.
