We are still undecided about names for number 2.

What do you think of Nell? Do you think it is ok as a name in its own right rather than as a nickname for Eleanor?

We have a long european surname so a short first name works well.

Thanks

I do think of it as NN to either Helen or Eleanor but it's not overly Nicknamey so may work quite well as a complete name.

I adore Nell and love it as a name in its own right. Simple, striking, feminine, strong and perfect for a long surname. And NN Nellie is gorgeous too.

If you wanted a longer name I would go no longer and no further than Helen or Ellen which are quite delicious as well.

I have friends who had b/g twins and named the girl Nellie.
I think I would prefer Nell or Nellie as the nickname only.

I personally don't really like it, sorry. The first thing I thought of was that song "Nelly the Elephant packed her trunk and off she went to the circus...!"

The first thing I thought of was that Jodie Foster movie "Nell" where she has speech and intellectual problems. Or she lives out in the woods, or something...

I really like Nella though!

Thanks everyone. The other names on our girl shortlist are Lucinda, Elsie and Alice - but there is something going against each of them.

What middle names do you think work with Nell?
