Hi,
Am just trying to find out what other people eat or don't eat when pregnant to try to work out whether I'm being over anxious about it or not (I have a history of being overly anxious).

So... I know that soft cheese, deli food, hams, most seafood, soft serve icecream are out.

So would you eat:
Macdonalds chicken burgers, chicken salads, chicken wraps
Red Rooster: Chicken, chicken rolls etc
KFC: At all
Chinese takeaway
Freshly caught and cooked straight away fish, prawns, crabs.
Chinese takeaway
Thai takeaway
Indian takeaway
Chicken doner kebabs
Hot dogs from ice creameries
Noodle Bar food
Pizza takeaay
Cheerios
Kabana
Cob loaf
Left over dinner heated up the next day

Thanks for reading original.gif

Macdonalds chicken burgers, chicken salads, chicken wraps - No
Red Rooster: Chicken, chicken rolls etc - No
KFC: At all - only the chips
Chinese takeaway - I had it for the first time this pregnancy last week at 35 weeks and only because it was cooked in front of me at a really well known, popular place
Freshly caught and cooked straight away fish, prawns, crabs. - Yes to fish - I don't eat the other stuff so not sure
Chinese takeaway
Thai takeaway - Only vegetarian dishes from well known places
Indian takeaway - Same as above
Chicken doner kebabs - No
Hot dogs from ice creameries - No
Noodle Bar food - As in noodle box where you can see the guy cooking - yes
Pizza takeaay - Only vegetarian
Cheerios - No
Kabana - No
Cob loaf - As in the bread? Yes
Left over dinner heated up the next day - Yes

Good luck - it is so hard not to stress about it all.

ETA - forgot to answer the left over dinner

Listeria possible

So would you eat:
Macdonalds chicken burgers, chicken salads, chicken wraps -NO
Red Rooster: Chicken, chicken rolls etc - Plain chicken only if it is hot.
KFC: At all - if it is hot.
Chinese takeaway - NO

Freshly caught and cooked straight away fish, prawns, crabs. - Yes, I would (more chance of food poisoning than Listeria here). Be careful of not eating Swordfish or shell fish too often - heavy metals/mercury.
Here is a good list of seafood in pregnancy http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/consum...d-mercury-faqs/

Thai takeaway - Depends on what dish. Listeria not the fear really, more the possibility of food poisoning.
Indian takeaway - Same as above ... but generally YES I would.
Chicken doner kebabs - NO
Hot dogs from ice creameries - NO
Noodle Bar food - NO
Pizza takeaway - Only if Hot.
Cheerios - Yes (the cereal right?)
Kabana - don't even know what this is, if it is a sausage, NO
Cob loaf - Yes
Left over dinner heated up the next day - not if it is chicken, rice or fish.

Most of what you have listed isn't really Listeria fear, I'd be more worried about other contaminant whilst pregnant, ie Salmonella etc.
Just make sure that you wash ALL salads before eating (salads are the worst one), try and stay away from preserved meats, and only eat fresh hot meat.
Cheeses made from pasteurised milk are okay, and make sure eggs are well cooked and not runny.

Read sticky at top wink.gif

I love KFC (would ask them to cook a fresh batch of chicken for me), Pizza (piping hot takeaway) and fresh seafood cooked (Oysters Kilpatrick and Garlic Butter with freshly cooked Prawns/Lobster/Bugs).

The other take aways I don't eat anyway..... any asian takeaway makes me sick (but funnily enough I can cook my own curries at home and be fine) and I would only ever eat a hot dog at home (even when not PG).

I have eaten red rooster and mcdonalds in this pregnancy and seafood that had been freshly caught.
I would eat pizza and thai/chinese takeaway.
I won't eat anything on display in a food court which contains salads etc or hotdogs or kebabs.
I will only eat leftovers in they have been properly stored. If I have left it out for a few hours etc I would throw it out.

I would eat McDonalds nuggets & chips, maybe KFC??, no to subway, probably no to Asian/Indian takeaway unless they cook it in front of me, yes to pizza, yes to fish & seafood (cooked & hot), yes to leftovers if they were well heated the next day, yes to sushi ONLY from a place I know well & will even make it fresh for me if I ask (no sashimi, but I don't eat it anyway!), yes to noodles if cooked in front of me, no to hotdogs (but that is a no anytime for me!!), no to chicken donor kebabs (but I would probably eat the meat ones from somewhere I knew). I don't eat any of the other stuff so I don't know. In fact most of this would apply normally for me!!

So would you eat:
Macdonalds chicken burgers, chicken salads, chicken wraps:normally don't eat this (maybe once a year when there was no other option), so prob wouldn't be any occasion where I'd be eating it during pregnancy
Red Rooster: Chicken, chicken rolls etc: as above
KFC: At all : as above
Chinese takeaway: yes (hot food)
Freshly caught and cooked straight away fish, prawns, crabs.: yes
Thai takeaway: yes (hot food)
Indian takeaway: yes (hot food)
Chicken doner kebabs: hmmm, not sure it would depend on the place, but i'd probably choose lamb instead
Hot dogs from ice creameries: never eaten this so probably wouldn't start in pregnancy
Noodle Bar food: hmmm, if it was very hot
Pizza takeaay: yes
Cheerios: as in the cereal?? i don't eat it normally so n/a during pregnancy
Kabana: don't know what this is
Cob loaf: again don't know what this is
Left over dinner heated up the next day: definitely yes : )

I've pretty much eaten most of that stuff. Here's what I have not eaten, and will not eat, while pregnant:

alcohol
soft cheeses
pate
deli meats / pre-made sandwiches
BBQ chicken that has been in a heat counter
soft serve ice cream
seafood / sushi
re-heated left overs

My stance on take-away food is as long as it is freshly cooked, from a reasonable establishment that I know and trust, it will be ok. McDonalds are now cooking burgers as you order, and this makes them fine for me - even the chicken ones. Pizzas are cooked at a high enough temp to kill listeria. Chinese (Indian, Thai etc) is questionable at the best of times but wok cooking is also high temp cooking - so as long as it is fresh.
