My DD7 made her own breakfast this morning and the milk she used was way past its use by date. 12 days past its use by date. She only had a mouthful then chucked it away as she said it tasted funny. I am so cross at myself as I usually double check everything in the fridge as I have a vomiting phobia and check everything is within its use by dates. The older kids often open new milks before the others have been used so sometimes we have two or three opened milks on the go but my DD said she found this one right at the back. I have so many containers of fruit and veg in there at the moment I don't know how she even saw it but she did.
Has anyone elses child had milk this old and been okay? How long do you think it will take her to get sick if she is going to?
Is there any natural things I can give her that will help ward off food poisoning?

Not a child but I had a swig of sour milk by mistake when I was pregnant with #2, it came straight back up though and both me and baby were fine.

I've done this and according to my hubby who's a chef most times you would throw up instantly or get unwell within a couple of hours. She should be fine though... just keep an eye on her for the rest of the day.

That's if you did get sick from it but a mouthful probably wouldn't make you sick. Goodluck.

If it was going to make her sick she would have vomited it up then and there.

i had a mouthful of rank milk when i was pregnant. Didnt effect me at all.

ds1 had it once when he was about 1, had a whole bowl of it actually, i checked the date but didn't actually check the milk as it had never been opened and we had only just brought it the day before. he was fine, i kept an eye on his for the whole day but nothing became of it.

If there was no immediate vomit then all is probably well.
I am just shocked that you still had milk left in your fridge after 12 days. Wouldn't happen in my house.

My MIL made pancakes for the kids with milk that was rank. It wasn't till I made us a cup of tea later that I realised it was off. Funny thing was that it was still well within the use-by date but is was soooo sour. Kids were fine..

What a weird coincidence - I made our breakfast this morning, and had a funny feeling about the milk, it didn't smell off, just kind of odd, checked the date it was 9 days over the use by. Thing is, this carton was half full, so we'd been drinking it all day yesterday. I thought my tea tasted a bit odd yesterday - no white floaters though, and I left it (my friend drank hers, I feel so guilty). And I had a full cupful hot with caramel flavouring in it.

I poured it out this morning, and remade the cereal though.

I gave DH off milk a couple years ago - we were camping and had taken everything out of the fridge from home with us. We put up the tent, and he was so hot and sweaty and milk was all we had, so I gave it to him first, he swigged the lot down before I'd realised it was 2 weeks past its use by. I tried to make him vomit it up, but he was very philosophical, said he felt fine, it just tasted a bit funky.

Like you OP, I am generally very very careful, and have poured milk out before its use by because I thought it might be a bit nasty.
