Can anyone tell me if there are any OB's in Newcastle - public or private - that will support a vba2c??

I thought John Hunter Hospital was supposed to have a VBAC program?? I am not sure if that is still the case, hopefully someone can confirm that. When Andrew Bissits was there it was very VBAC friendly.

Bumping as this is so interesting to read. I automatically thought that after 2 c/s you only had the option for another c/s. I would love to try for a vaginal birth with #3. Would love to read more of others experiences.

Hi there, not sure about a VBA2c, but I went there for DS2 and they were not at all supportive of me having a VBAC so I ended up having an elective ceaser and was told that they would it would always be a ceaser THERE if I ever went back. They would not induce me in any way, would not do an internal even when I was having irregular contractions, and used every scare tactic in the book, even make me talk to a psychologist about my decision . I did have a few issues but when I am having #3 I will be going to either the Mater or the RBWH. The redlands told me that if I was to need an emergency ceaser after hours, their surgery staff were at least 30 minutes away! You could always try and see what they say. At the end of the day, they cannot force you to do anything, but they can refuse to help your attempt. Im happy to talk to you more about my experience there if you like? I can also give you the name of a Doula I have found who has supported several successful VBA2C at the Mater and the RBH.

I forgot all about this thread. I went back and had a look to see what I posted, at the time I wasn't even pregnant.

So after much time I can report and say that I acheived my VBA2C and that it was a wonderful journey.

I researched OB's and was not going anywhere that was unsupportive of my choice. I found my OB and hospital, located almost 2 hours away. Probably sounds crazy but my oldest and dearest friend lives just 10km from the hospital, so I bunked up at her place leading up to the birth of DD2.

I had ruled out homebirth, too far away from a hospital, not an option for my husband and not sure that I could commit without the support of DH.

Pregnancy was great, no doubts at all from my OB (he is very, very pro VBAC/VBA2C.)

I was 12 days over, lots of pre labour over a week and a half, never quite knew when it was going to take off. When I finally went into labour, I was calling the hospital within 15 minutes as my contractions were super strong and only 5 minutes apart. By the time I got to the hospital they were 3 minutes apart. DD2 was born less than 3 1/4 hours after labour began with around 40 minutes of pushing.

As much as I loved my VBA2C experience and would do it again in a heartbeat, I realised that in a way that it doesnt matter they way in which a baby is born as long as the health of the baby was formost in any decisions that we made.

What ment most to me aside from having a healthy baby was the fact that from the moment she was born, she was with me skin on skin, until I was ready to have a shower and get cleaned up. We spent 4 uninterupted hours together, bonding and falling in love.

I mourned the loss of this connection that I was unable to make with my first two in the first few hours of their birth. This time I wasnt drugged up and my mind was so very clear, I could soak it all up.

I knew that I could VBA2C, just knew it. For me it was a matter of finding the right care to make it happen, I could not have done it under any unsupported care, too hard to fight when you are in the throws of labour. Building a trusting relationship with your care provider is the key to having your choices respected and desired outcomes realised. If something isn't quite right, you need to be able to trust your care providers recommendations.

I was close to a EMCS with DD2, theatre staff were there ready to go (called in during the night), thankfully my OB didnt jump the gun, he just let me go but was ready to step in if things got worse. As it turned out DD2 had the cord around her neck twice, I was the one to slip it off, that is how quickly I held her. Had he said we need to get this baby out now, I would not have second guessed him, he had my complete trust and respect, he was in my corner.

Great news on the vba2c jetage and congrats on the birth of your new daughter!
I myself was set for vba2c earlier this year but had to have a csec instead as the people who were going to look after the kids moved interstate right before the due date. I was really upset because it's what I wanted all along but in the end I wouldn't have had anyone to leave the kids with when I went not labour. My csec was prob the best out of all 3 and recovery was good and bub was nearly 4kg!
I do wish for a 4th bub and it would be an amazing experience to have a vba3c I'd just have to wait a while until the kids are older and more manageable to contemplate it.

Ohh this thread is fantastic! I have been looking for any info on this by women in Aust for a while now! I got a bit excited and came right to the end so I could post now. Ok I'm off to read all the stories now!
