Breeder of bootiful babes.
I have always fed DD every 4hrs. I usually let her lead the feed routine and just go along with her pattens which for the most part is a spot on 4 hr feeds and a bit longer over night, usually 5-6hrs.

However lately she seems to be going 5hrs or 5 1/2 hrs (has even had one or two longer spurts when we've been out)during the day between feeds before making any indication that she wants feeding.

I usually feed her every 4hrs without waiting for hunger signs, just because I know she is due. But I have been letting her lead the way lately trying to establish her own routine and fitting it in with any outings I have.

So my question is, should I let her go that long between feeds or should I feed her every 4 hours? She usually has one side per feed and completely drains it, I have an abundant supply and fast letdown so she gets a fair dose per feed I imagine...she's always content and milk drunk after.

Should I expect that as she gets older she'll be happier to go longer stretches between feeds and this is probably what's going on?

TIA, Naomi.

Hi

DS is just over 5months & has been going anywhere from 4-8hrly during the day/night. He weighed 3.3kg at birth & is 7.2kgs now. Is happy, alert, lots of wet & pooey nappies so I'm happy that he can go more than 4hrs a lot of the time.

He has just started on solids too. wub.gif Which he is enjoying.

Not sure if I've helped but sounds fine to me. I'm no expert though. wink.gif

Hi, this new pattern may change again during a growth spurt, but if your bub has a great output as pp described, no problem, if your breasts aren't so happy then you can hand express off a little bit of milk to ease any discomfort and wait for bub to feed. If she is well, I'm sure she is getting just what she needs.
