One of the most powerful bonds of a strong female friendship, its intimacy, is founded on sharing, confiding secrets, asking for advice. We share the details of the excruciating lead-ups to break-ups, we discuss trying to get pregnant, blow off steam about our issues with our mothers. Is it a betrayal, or notice that you have dropped down a branch in the friendship tree, if you are not told important news, happenings, feelings? Or, in a mature friendship, should you realise you can't be told everything?

I do keep secrets from family and friends. Its by no means a reflection on them, I just don't think that they need to know 'everything' about my life.

And there are just some things that should never be shared.....although some members of my family feel the need to share those things with me.....

I believe people have a right to choose what they do/don't want to share and who they do/don't want to share it with.

Yes I do and always have, that's just me and I really don't like to share every detail of my life. But just recently it has caused a few issues with a friend, I didn't tell her something and now she is mighty peeved and it has cause a bit of an issue in our friendship. It had totally nothing to do with her and did not effect her in anyway but she thought she had the right to know.

Hmmmmm

blah blah blah
I find it almost impossible to not tell my friends stuff!! I am like an open book, and have to work hard at not telling people everything - as not everyone is as open minded as I maybe!

When I was younger I was mortified if I ever found out that a friend had not told me something, it was like a betrayal and nearly ruined friendships. As I have gotten older and wiser I realise that they don't have to tell everything and I just need to accept that. I still desperately want them too though!!!

I have also moved from having one main friend to very much like that email that the OP was talking about - different friends for different things, altho there is still one besty wub.gif
