Ah, don't be scared of socks guys. original.gif They're really not as hard as they look - once you get the hang of how to do the heel & have done it a few times it's quite simple. If you can get someone to show you how to do them, it's really worthwhile. They're fun to make and everyone loves receiving handmade socks as pressies. original.gif I taught myself 5 years ago from some really great instructions I found online, with photos and everything - unfortunately the website is no longer available. sad.gif

I'm going to try and teach a friend how to do socks - not sure how we'll go though as she uses circular needles and I'm a 4 needles kind of girl. But I'm sure we'll muddle through.

Cath - I'm closer than I thought actually (I had never heard of the place, so had to look it up blush.gif) - I live in the Southern Highlands in NSW.

superfruity - wow, that's an awesome cushion. I do a bit of crochet but I don't think I could make something that impressive!

How grand it must be, to be the chosen one...
One day I will do a sock!

But in the meantime I have so many other things I want to knit. Really need to quit work - it is eating into my knitting time biggrin.gif

I think I will brave socks sometime soon as well... maybe little baby socks so it wont take too long and I don't mind knitting with 4/5 needles original.gif

I need some advice though... I have been taught knitting by my mom and grandma but not really been taught everything... I just have a weird question about how you knit the last stitch in a row? Just depending on the pattern as a knit or purl or always purl... my edges usually look a little messy/loose even though I knit quite tense otherwise...

have been too tired the last nights to crochet the flower cushion but it is coming along nicely and i bet you its easier than a sock! JJ do you crochet?

Hey superfruity maybe we should start a sock support group biggrin.gif

I always do the last stitch the same as the rest of the row. But I know my mum always just slips the last stitch onto the needle and doesnt knit it or purl it.

Still going with the cardigan, but a bit slowly at the moment, I have been tired after work and have only been managing 8-10 rows a night. Hopefully will be able to get a bit more done over the weekend.

Hey all,

its been quiet in here so I thought I would show off my new socks. They are the first pair I have ever made and I have only just finished them. The colour is a bit eye popping (truest in second pic) but I lurve them anyway.

What have you guys been working on?

It is quiet in here.

Love the socks FM, you are very clever.

I finished the cardigan I was talking about in my last post. I made a bathmat for my new house and a teddy for a friend. I am now working on a cotton jumper for a friend's little boy, it is coming along nicely.

Love the socks, FM - they look like you've been doing it forever (I know my first pair didn't look anywhere near as great)! biggrin.gif Love the colours too but then I'm a big fan of bright colours.

I've been doing socks as always... some simple ones and some colourwork ones for a bit of a challenge. I taught myself colourwork a few months ago... not sure why I never bothered before. It's nowhere near as hard as I thought and the results are amazing, even if I do say so myself. happy.gif

Have also started doing some light yarn bombing... just around my backyard for a start. Maybe one day I'll go public. ph34r.gif Anyone else here into that?

Yarn bombing is a type of street art. Basically you clad trees, statues, park benches with pieces of knitting. Search yarn bombing in google images you'll get lots of images. Appanently its "technically" legal but I haven't heard of anybody being prosecuted and I know of a group who meet at 3pm in a neighbouring suburb.

JJ, I love the idea of yarn bombing your backyard.

Thank you for the sock praise, I really was shocked that they came out so well. I thought I would be posting a mis-shapen lump for us all to have a giggle over. I followed this tutorial it was excellent.

ETA: yarn bombing can also be crocheted. I didn't want to offend any crocheters.
