grin.gif Goodmorning! I am 10 weeks preg and my first ultrasound is in 4 weeks time. Im wondering wether anyone here has ever used a doppler at home to hear a heartbeat, and how well they work for everyone. Im a little unsure mainly because i dont want to stress myself if it didnt work!, and mabey i just need to wait for my app, but im getting impatient! Hiring a doppler is cheaper than booking and paying for my own scan privately. Thanks, sarah.

I used one all through my last pg from about 14 weeks and through this one as well (even used it this morning). I had a m/c at 12 weeks between DD2 and DS and find it very reassuring to have my doppler.

At 10 weeks I'm not sure how well it would work, I know I couldn't find mine until about 14 weeks but I have heard of people finding it a lot earlier.

Rather than hiring I bought one, they have them at a pretty good price on ebay. It can work out much cheaper to buy one especially if you are early on in the pregnancy and plan on having more than one child. I used mine during late pg as well especially on slow movement days.

I have one I borrowed off a friend and it's been a godsend. Even yesterday I used it because I couldn't get this lazy little boy to move.

Though in the earlier weeks of pregnancy it's very touch and go as to whether or not you get something on it. I didn't get a proper heartbeat until I was around 14 weeks and there was no guarantee that I could get it every time I checked. There are other sounds you can listen for though that indicate things are OK.

If you do decide to get one let me know and I will pass on a website that has examples.

Yeah I bought one from ebay and I couldn't find a heart beat until at least 20 weeks..
If you get one don't get upset and worried if you can't here or find heart beat....

Save me Barry!
and be careful because sometimes you'll find your own heartbeat and get worried because the heart rate is too slow LOL
that said, it is very reassuring

Hello

I have hired a doppler from www.firstbeats.com.au and it is fantastic. I got it when I was 13 weeks and could hear heartbeats instantly.

As the bubs are moving now I only need to use it every 3 or 4 days if I start freaking out.

It has cost about $39 per month and it is worth every cent. They post it out to you.

Just remember that the heartbeat is often a lot lower down than you expect and if you move the doppler slowly it is easier to find.

Good luck!

Hi!

I brought a doppler from the EB trading room and its been awesome! I recieved it when I was 12 weeks, tried it quickly but gave up, then I think I tried it again at 14 weeks and found bubs heartbeat, then again at 16 weeks it was a lot louder, so DD & DH got to hear it too..I try it every now and again and its getting easier to find...I love it!!

I love mine. I started looking for a heartbeat at 14 weeks but after stressing, I asked on here and realised I was looking too high! blush.gif tongue.gif I'm 22 weeks now and can feel this little monkey swim around but I still use it every time I feel uncertain (his movements aren't always regular just yet).

I've recently been really sick too so I've just checked on him to make sure I'm not stressing him out too much.

I bought the CHEAP cheap one off ebay, and have a lot of fat on my stomach so I was worried it wouldn't be so great but it's been fabulous so far. Paid for itself many times over.

I too got a First Beats one @ around 14 weeks. I could find the h/b every time. As the pp has said it is a lot lower down-my dd h/b was always down towards the bottom LHS of my tummy.

I'm going to try to use it when I get to 10weeks this time and see how I go. I know it'll be hit and miss though.

It was an absolute releif to have during my last pg. Especially between the 12w & 19w scan before I felt movement.

Oh & First Beats were so lovely to deal with! I ended up getting it so much cheaper as there was a stuff up with initial delivery!(Not their fault-couriers)

I bought one for DS2, found it very reassuring. We had an anterior placenta so I didn't feel movement as quickly as with DS1 so hearing the heartbeat really helped.
I have seen them for sale in Kmart too. biggrin.gif
