I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks whicj sid no twins. Have had no contact with doctor/midwife since as I´m overseas (they're fine with it).

I and others think I'm pretty big for my 18 weeks....could they have missed twins oe is that unlikely?

Hi, I don't know for sure but it seems very unlikely - checking the number of bubs is pretty standard. BTW, you don't look that 'big' to me - just right.

No!! I'm pregnant with twins, and found out at my 13 week scan - within 3 seconds the sonographer had found the second baby. I seriously doubt they could miss a twin at 10 weeks.

BTW, you don't look overly big to me. I was about the same size in my first pregnancy at that stage. I'm only 16 weeks so far, and I'm much bigger than that! I'm bigger with these twins now than I was at 6 months with DS!

I was on the pill when I found out I was pregnant so they sent me for a dating ultrasound (I was 8 weeks), they picked up it was twins straight away! It’s pretty obvious, not something you can miss I dont think!

I think you look great, not to big at all! Best of luck original.gif

I'm such a lucky Mumma...I have 4 gorgeous girls!
Yes. My Ob said she had a lady who came to her at 28 weeks who had had 2 ultrasounds and she told my ob that there was one single baby girl. So my Ob did another ultrasound and low an behold there were two babies in there! This lady nearly fell off the table!....As you would!

Saying what others are thinking since 1978.
I think it is highly unlikely that an ultrasound would miss twins. It does survey the entire uterus, after all.

(That said, I saw a documentary about an extraordinary case where a woman had what she thought was twins in utero, then halfway through the pregnancy they detected a third foetus implanted outside the uterus. She somehow ended up delivering all three safely but the chances of this happening are extremely miniscule. Like, one in the hundreds of millions.)

In any case, you don't look particularly big for 18 weeks.

Yeah, i had a scan done at 7 or 8 weeks too which was actually how i found out i was UTD... first thing they checked was whether it was multiple - and i had no idea what i was looking at, so the announcement was a bit of a shock! I really think it would be quite impossible to miss a multiple pregnancy due to the fact that the uterus is quite small at 10 weeks.

Don't crowd Sir Walter, Edmund.
With my first I had a scan at 8 weeks simply to check if it was twins because I was so sick - they could clearly tell it wasn't.

I do understand where you are coming from in relation to thinking that you look big for a first pregnancy. I am slightly taller than you are and I wasn't showing until well after 26 weeks, however everyone is diffent and I think it depends on the way the baby is positioned. Also, I know with myself that I have a longer torso and shorter legs, so that is probably why I wasn't showing as much.

Just remember though, you don't look overly big for 18 weeks. original.gif
