I've just put a cradle on layby but also need a new cot (DS's is falling apart!) and was wondering if it's okay to stick a newborn straight into a cot? Is anyone going to do this?

Also...I'll be having a c/s so wonder if bending down to get bubs out of a cot will be more difficult than a cradle/bassinette?

What are you going to do? original.gif

My DS went straight into his cot (although, he did co-sleep in a snuggle bed some nights in the first couple of weeks)

This bub on her way will go straight into her cot too original.gif I think if you have the rail down, and the cot base up then it would be no different to getting bubs out of the cradle IYKWIM original.gif

I want to use a basinette - simply because it's more portable if having bubs in his/her own room gets too distant. Also I heard they're better protection against SIDS (my cousin passed away from it so it's a big paranoia in my family).

I think we'll wait and see further down the track though, might find a medium alternative.

I love being a Mum!!!
From the moment we brought our daughter home she had her day naps in her cot and her nighttime sleeps were in the bassinette in our room. Having her in our room meant that during the night when she woke for a feed I could simply lift her out of the bassinette, feed her in bed then put her back in her basinette. Once she was only waking once during the night, the first stint she would sleep in the bassinette then the second stint was in her cot. Admittedly I slept better when she wasn't in the room with me. I found that as she was used to her cot from day one there were no drama's when she started always sleeping there. I was lucky that my sister gave me her old bassinette (still in excellent condition) otherwise I wouldn't have purchased one given that they only sleep in them from 2 - 5 months (depending on how big they were at birth). Hope this helps.

Both my babies were put into the cot in a snuggle bed. If you have the cot mattress on the highest level and the side down it's very easy to get the baby out after a c/s

I plan on putting my bubs into a cradle that will hang from a bolt near the edge of my bed and then the cradle can be moved and setup around the house using a tripod that it comes with. I will transfer to a cot when he/she can pull themselves up and it's no longer safe to have them in the cradle.

This is a pic of the cradle I plan to use:
