Get through it. Learn from it. Move on.
Probably not much help but I did try this pill for a month a while back, which really isn't long enough.

It put me in the worst mood ever which really put me off. I do have a mild history of depression so that perhaps wouldn't happen to everyone. Plus it's expensive so I probably won't go for it again.

I was lead to believe it's a superpill though but am not sure why now.

Hi Tasy

Was on Yamsin for the 2 yrs between DS and DD, found it to be really good for me. I had previously been on Depo and found the side effects really bad and my GP suggested that the Yasmin would have the least amount of side effects for me. I used to suffer from hormonal headaches, this did not happen with the Yasmin. I also did not get any weight gain that I would attribute to the pill (just too many chockies.

For me the only real downside was the cost, as it is significantly more expensive than other pills.

I have heard that some people can have depressive episodes wit Yasmin as well, but was lucky enough that this wasn't an issue for me.

I tried Yasmin ... no libido compounded by depression... I don't think that it works for people who have suffered from depression. My Dr wouldn't listen about my side effects so I stopped taking it and life just seemed to lighten up!!

Who has time for depression with 2 kids a DH and a full time job??

Hi Tara

I loooooove Yasmin! I haven't been on it for long but I was on Monofeme before this and gained 7kg and lost half my libido. rant.gif

I have only been on Yasmin for a couple of weeks so far but I am pleased to report (as is my boyfriend laughing2.gif )my libido has bounced back completely. I had a month off between pills and have lost 3kg so far too. original.gif

I have never had any problems with depression or anything and haven't had any issues there for now either. I can understand why it would put others off though.

ETA Yes, it is monophasic. And expensive - costs $50-$60 for three months. Worth it so far for me though.
Hope that helps.

Carolyn

I was on Yasmin for about 8 mths. Went on it after the implanon gave me dramas. And it was fantastic for me, didn't have any side effects at all.

I went on yasmin years ago as it has another drug in it that helps you to not gain weight which you commonly do on the pill. I actually lost a lot of weight during that time because for once my body was on a 'normal' cycle.

however!

I developed a rash 'down there' that could not be attributed to thrush, an STD or anything else. Several types and strengths of anti fungal cream did not work. Eventually the doctor was convinced that I was depressive and prescribed an anti depressant.

I dumped the GP, the prescription and Yasmin. Low and behold, the rash I had for over a year disappeared within 2 months.

Hi Ladies,

I also have had trouble with this pill, but it's not the first one i've experienced problems with. I tried Yasmin because the more common brands didn't suit me, and I had heard that Yasmin often works for people with similar problems.

I was on it for a year and experienced complete loss of libido, depression, insecurity, moodiness and aggressiveness to name a few. I wasn't very stable as a person whilst I was on yasmin, and contrary to most people I actually gained a little bit of weight whilst on Yasmin but this took many months and I didn't gain much - I notice in the booklet it states that digestion of carbs may be altered or something along those lines, and this is what I put it down to.

In saying that I would still recommend that people who can't take common brands of pills give this a go, as it does seem to work for quite a few people. But it didn't work for me.

I recently went on Yasmin again after having a 6 month break (dealt with some personal things, and was curious as to whether this was a contributing factor to the issues I had whilst on Yasmin the first time), and after being on it only a month i've had the worst mood swings i've ever had in my life, to the point where they felt almost uncontrollable. I'm more aggressive than last time, it's like I can feel a rage inside me, which I don't like at all as i've always been a calm and sweet person, and it usually takes ridiculous amounts of something antagonising me before I even feel slightly angry. I've lost all my creativity, am insecure again and can see that I am on the path to getting depressed again.

After years of trying different pills and also the depo-provera injection, I'm beginning to think that perhaps I just don't suit hormonal forms of contraception and am researching non-hormonal now.
