I'm thinking of buying a Maya Wrap Sling from US (about USD44.95 or slightly less). Does anyone know if this will incur a custom tax/duty at our (Aust.) end?

I'm not too sure, i'm only familiar with what you get slugged with when importing a wedding dress original.gif. You can email or phone Customs though for the correct info if you like, they are very helpful and respond quickly to emails original.gif.

Email: information@customs.gov.au

Phone: 1300 363 263 from anywhere in Australia

probley not, you would not pay tax.

I have had many (almost) 100 items sent accross from the USA after buying them online (mostly ebay stuff) and I have never paid tax or stamp duty or anything like that.
In fact on some of my packets it has said customs has checked and verified that contents are safe to travel. (werid I think) So custom in USA and australia have checked the boxes.

It might depend on what the item is and where abouts in USA your buying it from.

You could always ask the seller that is selling the item if they might know.

I think you only have to pay import duty if the value of the item is above a certain value (around $500?). I shouldn't think you'll have a problem - I've bought things from the US for a similar price as your item, and I've never had to pay duty.

Customs duty on textiles kicks in after the total value of the goods, postage and insurance is over about $130 Australia dollars. So a Maya wrap should not attract duty. DH ordered my Maya from an Australian distributor, have they closed down?

Thanks ladies for replying!

Sebela, I think there are 2 distributors in Aust. One of them is Instinctive Parenting website. They charged AUD80.00 excluding postage. How much did you pay for yours?

I'm waiting to find out how much postage cost if I buy from US. If it is cheaper, I might get from US hence this post about customer duty.

I was hoping to get a used one. Have posted in the Trading Room but looks like no one has one. On Ebay, there are some but all from US. Personally, I'm not a fan of Ebay. I am thinking of buying directly from the Maya Wrap website.

Dunno...I bought one and had it shipped over but didn't pay any tax. Not sure if that's normal or I was just lucky!!

I LOVE my Maya wrap! I'd offer to sell you mine but I'm keeping it for my DIL's to use one day!!
