Hi
I am a medical student, and I'm currently busy doing gynaecology...so it'll just be vaginas for a couple of weeks..lol
Was thinking maybe gynae would be nice to specialise in, but here where I'm studying, most of our senior teachers are men.Was just wondering how many would prefer women gynaes to men.Heard some women say men are more sensitive. Is that true for anyone who has experienced both.
I had a male gynae, only because was referred to him by family.
What would you choose and why?

I don't have one or need one, but if I did - I would choose a female.

I just feel that no matter how hard a male may try - they can't imagine period pain, bloating, ovulation twinges, or a hundred other things that are related to specifically female anatomy. original.gif

Have seen 2 males and 2 female gyno/OB specialists. I found 1 of each to be the most compassionate and sensitive so I dont think it makes a lot of difference!

I have had one of both and found them both to be great.

The female was my first visit ever to a gynea for the worlds worst case of thrush at 17 and she was so gentle and understanding and kept talking me through what she was doing "down there".

I cannot imagine my male gynae having the same level of compassion but when I went to him I was older and less stressed and I must say he is very good as well.

So for me Male, Female makes no difference now but it did when I was 17

I'd rather a female doctor when it comes to looking at my bits, but used a male obstetrician with Holly & am going with a male one with this baby. I could have looked for a female ob but I went with somebody who is local.

For stuff like pap smears I would definitely feel more comfortable with a female. I couldn't imagine going to a male gyne to discuss things like vaginal discharge...I was embarassed as anything when my obstetrician asked about my discharge during my last pregnancy.

Not bothered at all - I subscribe to Sandra's theory, whomever is best.

Currently my gyno is Dr Jim Ferry in Manly and he is FANTASTIC!! I couldn't care less if he has dangly bits between his legs, his knowledge on the female body (and it's internal plumbing system) is second to none and I figure if he's seen one vag he's seen 'em all.

Good Luck in your ongoing studies......

I have a male gynae, and a male Gp.

I prefer men. I like my gynae, he is honest, straight to the point but also very kind and caring.

The woman ob I saw when I was pregnant with Lil wasnt very upfront so I value a male attitude when it comes to my bits!!!

I would go to a female before a male gynae doctor.

However when you have no choice, knowing that a male gynae doctor does look at other ladies vaginas all day, does make it easier to do the deed.
