Can we fix it? YES WE CAN!
I am starting my first medicated FET cycle soon and have been prescibed prog pessaries. Unfortunately *TMI* they irritate my 'whatzit' pretty much straight away and leave me with shocking thrush blush.gif . So when I was told I need to use them 3 times a day for up to 10 weeks, I just groaned <_< . Yes, rectal application was suggested but I just can't bring myself to do it!!!

So now I am looking for an altenative. During my last IUI cycle I was on a double dose of Pregnyl injections in the 2ww instead of pessaries, but obviously I don't have that choice this time.

Can anyone tell me about Crinone:

How often do you apply?
How is it applied?
Have you had a reaction of any kind?
How much does it cost?
Anything else you can think of???

Are there any other alternatives ie injections, tablets, skin patches??

Thanks in advance

Two words Jodes - paper mache. When you try them you will know what I mean.

Seriously though, I used them for my stim cycle and I inserted them once or twice a day (can't remember it was so long ago - sad). They are not as strong as the progesterone pessaries and not as slimey IMO. They don't leak out like the progesterone pessaries do. I didn't have a reaction but about five days after using them I had the paper mache effect. I was like.... what the hell is that up there?! It seemed to turn into paper.

Not sure how much they are but surely they are not as expensive as the $60 per week progesterone. After 14 weeks of pessaries twice daily over the past 8 months I am completely and utterly over them.

PIO shots (progesterone in oil injections) are not available in Australia anymore I believe. I asked about them too.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Contextual memory disorder - yes this means I really forgot cert
Jodes it won't actually be thrush most likely it would more likely be a reaction to the coconut oil they place on pessaries.
The main thing with crinone it the cost involved. Also taking a latcos bifficlous (sp? sorry) tablet during treatment would help if it does turn out to be thrush.
Personally I found crinone much better!.......Amber would have had to pay a small foruntue on this stuff because nearly all FETS!

Hi Jodes,

I haven't used the pessaries, but have just finished on the Crinone. I inserted them twice a day and found that I had to wear a panty liner as there was some discharge (love the paper mache comment!). I also experienced external itching but no thrush. Can't think of anything else sorry. I have used the Pregnyl in the past and found that I had terrible cramping with it.

All the best.

Hi Jodes

I never had pessaries, so I can't comment on them.

I had Pregnyl for my 2nd stim cycle & liked it, becuase it was less fuss. The only thing is, it delayed AF by a couple of days, getting my hopes up.

For stim #1 & #3 I used Crinone. So I'll try to answer some of your question.

How often do you apply?

I used it once a day, but I have heard of people using it twice a day.

How is it applied?
It's a cream like substance, in an applicator. You just insert it, then squeeze the top to release the Crinone.

Have you had a reaction of any kind?
I had cramping & sore (*)(*)s. It also (by the leaflet inside the packet), gives you a feeling of sadness & unworthiness.

How much does it cost?
Not really sure, but it was included in the cycle costs.

Anything else you can think of???
As the girls have said, there is a bit of leakage. I didn't have a problem until about 4 or 5 days after I started to use it. Then it started to come out.

Crinone delays AF for some people, but I got AF right on time (both times sad.gif )

I have not used crinone but from what I have come across it is more expensive... Other than that I can't offer much info there.

One thing you could try if willing is to use the Pesseries anally rather than vaginally. Many others have done it and claim it to be less messy, more appropriate for day time applications (doesn't leak as much so the rest time is reduced) and won't cause thrush...

I HATED crinone, gave me awful cramps and headaches, much preffered pessaries and found the mess factor to be fairly equal...

For my last medicated FET, my FS said Crinone was too expensive, even though I had some irritation from the pessaries sad.gif. He didn't think the absorption would be adequate if I used them rectally (I know blood P4 levels can be higher from rectal application of the pessaries, but I guess he meant absorption into the endometrium). FS didn't want me using the injections either, as apparently they can have nasty effects at the injection site & sometimes cause infections.

Hey Jodes

I had Crinone for my 2WW, and 'Messaries' as I call them suck! But I guess we can't get through without them so here's what I recon...

How often do you apply?
I used it once a day, just as I was getting into bed so no problems with leaks during the day. This was until 5ish days after I started and I got a small amount of discharge (kinda like paper mashe as amber said before) but nothing a small pantie liner didn't fix.

How is it applied?
It's in a tube (like those tampons with the applicator) with a little square at the end that holds the cream. You insert it all the way up and squeeze the square with the cream a wallah done.

Have you had a reaction of any kind?
I was positive I was pregnant apart from the BFN HPT's. Sore boobs, mild cramps, emotional, nausous etc but these are normal reactions.

How much does it cost?
No idea coz mine was included in the cycle cost.

Anything else you can think of???
Not really. They weren't that bad, but hey if you're feeling up to doing the deed do it "BEFORE" you apply LOL
Oh and to follow on from Jules...Crinone did delay AF for me (hence thinking I was P). I got to 14dpo still no AF (she's usually here by 12dpo for me) and AF didn't arrive until 3 days after I stopped applying them.

hi there, everyone pretty much sumed up about the crinone, but it is very expensive, im still using it and i finish my last one this saturday, but at my clinic its $150 for a box of 15. and you can not claim it back of medicare, and i use 1 a day for about 10 weeks.
the only thing that i hate is the discharge, with me it mainly comes out when i go to the loo, sorry if tmi, its kinda like a dry cottage cheese or a wet mushed up paper blush.gif
