Just wondering if there are any students of Primary education? I am enrolled in a BA(Prim Educ) and would be interested in discussing what subjects people are taking and how they have coped with the workload and any other info or support I can get.
Thanks

Don't count the days, make the days count!
I am currently doing a Bachelor of Education (Primary). I have three subjects to go. HOORAY, thought it was never going to end. Looks like I don't have much to be hooraying over with the way the job situation is. However I am not letting the lack of jobs stop me. I plan to be as proactive as I can about gaining employment. I have wanted to be a school teacher so long, it's like a dream come true. So a little job shortage is not going to stop me.

Email me anytime if you want to chat. I never tire of talking about teaching.

Excuse my lack of knowledge but I thought there was a shortage of teachers? Or is it just in the high schools?

Hi - I'm a special education teacher but I did a lot of primary subjects. I have a BEd (special education) & Master Special Education (autism). I'm more than happy to chat with you about anything that you might need help with.

As for the teaching situation. There is a massive shortage of high school and special education teachers. There is a huge amount of primary teachers and a lot are only offered contracts or supply work. It is very rare for graduate primary teachers to get full time work. That said though - we need more primary teachers to reduce class sizes but it is a government issue (isn't always!!).

Corrine - did you check out the Ed Qld site? Hope it was helpful

Take care

just keep swimming, just keep swimming
Just wanted to pop in and say hello.

In 2002 I completed my BA of Education (Early Childhood). I am only doing casual work (waiting for a placement). The best way to look at the job situation is that the average age of a teacher is around 47. So they they are going to retire soon, plus where I want to work there are a lot of teachers about to retire. So eventually there will be a job for me (us).

Anyway, goodluck with your studies and if you have a question feel free to pm me.

I'm doing primary education at the university of Canberra. I love it! I've still got 2 years to go and this year I'm doing arts education, maths, sose (HSIE in NSW) and a diversity in education subject.
I've done pretty well until now, I'm a little worried about how I'll go with little Oliver taking up my time, but I want to get it finished!
I would love to talk to other people doing the degree...

Thanks to everyone for responding - I had a feeling there might be a few teaching students out there. Has anyone done the following subjects or similar:
Education:the psychological context
or
Education: the social and historical context

thanks

I did Education Foundations which may be similar. It was all about theories of education and the history of education in Australia. It was full-on! Not as fun as the core subject ones!
Has anyone done Science/Technology? I did them as 2 separate units (they are 2 subjects in ACT) and we got to design and make a chair. It was lots of fun. That's what I love about the teaching degree, it's not all essays etc.
