I am considering laser eye surgery. I was wondering if anyone here has had it done? I remember someone posting about it some time ago.

Does anyone know if any Health Insurance companies cover it at all (is it worth me changing my policy and waiting 6 months or whatever ... but then, it si a pre existing condition, so will they cover it anyway?). I know that they class it as cosmetic, which I really do not get! It sure would save them a heap of claims for glasses/contacts. But then maybe if our condition was repaired we might drop oour health insurance? Who knows the logic.

I have been looking into this too.

My PHI will pay $1000/eye after 2 years of membership.

Which compared to my sisters is really good.

I was told to get it done young because once you hit 40 to 45 you will most likly have to wear reading glasses anyway, so to get as many years glasses free as possible get it done young.

My dh had it done about 2yrs ago.

He says he wished he had done it much earlier. Our PHI (Medibank Private) didn't cover any of it either. At the time we were told there was no PHI Companies that would cover the cost.

I think it might be because of the unknown. They don't know the long term effects and that could be that it actually creates more of a problem which in turn creates more claims ... or along those lines iykwim.

His costs were $2300 per eye. I too am hoping to have it done soon, am sooo sick of contact lenses.

DH has looked into this a few times and hasn't found and PHI companies that will cover it.

You can get a small rebate back on your tax at the end of the year though - 20% of medical expenses over $1500 (note figures are off the top of my head, may be slightly different).
