My DDs name is Lily which I thought was the most common straight forward spelling. However since she was born so many people spell it as Lilly even when I have written it down in text messages etc to friends they still write back with the spelling Lilly. Is Lilly more common now? How would you automatically spell it?

I would probably spell it Lilly. Are they pronounced the same? (like 'lil-ee' and 'lil-lee', I always thought there was a slight difference...)

I'd spell it Lily. Definitely Lily. As in the flower...?

Double letters for no reason sh*t me up a wall.
Sincerely,
I don't know why my name has two n's.

I would automatically spell it Lilly regardless of the spelling of the full name (assuming this is a nick name?). eg dd Alyssa becomes nn ally with 2 l's even though her full name only has one

Even if lily was full name I would assume Lilly spelling.

eta perhaps this is a younger generation thing?

Lily is the traditional spelling, though these days Lilly is also used commonly. In NSW 2011 there were 410 Lilys and 178 Lillys.

I would pronounce both the same.

Her full name is Lily not short for anything.

We named her Lily like the flower.
