Hi All,
Can anyone give me some ideas or suggestions where I can find Midical Alert Braclets for a boy? My local chemist doesnt stock them and I cant think of any other websites, other than the Medic Alert site that would stock them. Any thoughts or suggestions would be fantastic. (my son is 8yrs old) TIA |

I got some of these which work just as well but are perhaps more suited to a boy?
Mediband You can get plain as well as printed ones and the plain ones have a space for you to write in and instructions for making it permanent. |

I've seen allergy bands in some of the baby shops - I think Baby Bunting and My Baby Kingdom? They're the rubber bracelets that list the allergy

This place customise bracelet.
Can have allergies and mom's telephone number printed on band. www.handband.com.au Code: AF048 gives 2.5% discount. Edited to add: Its similar band like Mediband's. This post has been edited by chubby~yoda: 04/03/2013, 01:44 PM |

Road ID do customizable bracelets/necklaces and post to Australia quickly and cheaply. Many Aussie use them for medic alert.

I've got a medic alert bracelet but I had to order through the medic alert foundation. Mine is for anaphylaxis to pethidine and morphine so not allergy related as such.

GenWhy, anaphylaxis is the end result of an allergic reaction.... I'm allergic to penicillin, anaphylactic shock as a result. Rather unpleasant experience, isn't it?
Anyhoo, ack to the question: you cannot buy Medic Alert bracelets over the counter or from other sites, you need your doctor to sign off on the medical details section of the form. They're instantly recognised by the medical profession, so they are worthwhile. The tag part of the bracelets have a brief statement of your medical condition (diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, etc) and your rego number, as well as the phone number for Medic Alert Australia. MA has a 24 hour service, and they keep your medical details on record so they can provide information to the hospital etc, straight away. You fill out your membership form annually, and update your health information when you do (or straight away if something changes). |
