I have an actual mountain of clean washing in the lounge. DS decided it would be fun to pull it all out of its baskets and create a mountain. It is covering the floor. Pretty much every room of the house is a mess. I feel so sick, swollen glands, cough, fever, muscle aches, rash, headache. This is the third day.

I am tempted to just carry all the wash back to the laundry, push all the other mess into the kids bedrooms, and shut all the doors. Should I?

My house is usually pretty tidy and clean, but three days is enough for a giant mess to appear with eight people in the house. It's so depressing. Yesterday I really pushed myself and it looked okay (apart from the kids rooms) but then everyone got home and it just looked a mess again, so I gave up. I just want to sleep.

If I were you I'd be ignoring it & focussing on getting better.

Alternatively, how old are your older kids - could they be financially bribed to help you fold some of it?

Dude, just sit down and rest and get better!
Do the bare minimum, enough to make sure kids are fed if too young to feed themselves, adults can handle themselves!
Drink soup, take panadol or lemsip etc and get better. The washing will still be there tomorrow...or the next day. But if you don't take care of yourself YOU may not be there to put it away as you'll be too sick to move or on a drip in hospital(worst case there lol).

I too have 2 baskets of clean washing I've been ignoring. it's not a health hazard, it's just clean washing in a basket. I just grab a nappy as needed or we grab underwear as needed. i will fold it soon, I promise!

My advice - ring an ironing lady ... Most charge $10 for a full basket ironed. When I'm really sick I do this as catching up and staying on top of things after you are better takes soooo long and the mess stresses me out and makes recovery longer than it needs to be.

If your kids are old enough I would also introduce a rule that they must all fold one basket each a week. That way no one is solely responsible and they learn to do this themselves! Also reduces the drama when you do get sick next time as the kids will be well practiced and can stay on top of things. My 4 year old is starting to learn to fold clothes now and keep his room clean original.gif

Feel better soon!

Some of these eight people need to help you. I bet you look after them when they are sick!

Don't hide the mess. Hide yourself, in bed, and get better. I guarantee that the mess will seem much more bearable once you are well again.

And now is the time for other people to look after you. original.gif

Feel better soon!

EB officially gives you permission to take the day off and rest. If looking at it really bothers you, hide the mess, and then flop on the couch. You can hide it tomorrow as well if need be!
Hope you feel better soon. original.gif

If it bothers you hide it. If it doesn't leave it. And go to bed and get some rest!
