Please help.

I have a high chance of miscarriage so I am highly stressed.

Yesterday I had an us. My ob told me I was measuring 5 weeks exactly. According to my dates I am 5w5d.

She is quite blunt and not very reassuring. I asked her why it would be different and she said I probably got my dates wrong. As i chart I know it is unlikely. I was basically pushed out the office straigh away and didn't have time to ask any questions.

Does this variance matter?

It is so early. I went for an u/s at a normal bulk billing place when, by my dates, I was 7 weeks.

Embryo at that stage measured 6 weeks 1 day. I didn't like it, but there was a heartbeat so I tried to stay OK with it.

Shortly after at the OB, when I was 9 weeks by my calculation, her machine came up with 8 weeks 5 days.

By the time I got to the 12w ultrasound (which I had at 12w 6 days), the dates match.

Last pregnancy at 8 weeks the OBs ultrasound was almost 10 days behind what I calculated, even though there was a heartbeat.

I know its not really possible, but please try to stop worrying, its really early.

It must be very hard not to worry. I had a miscarriage a month and a half ago, so know I will stress next time around. US are variable, especially so early. Sending sticky thoughts your way.

The measurements are just an average, all babies grow differently. Hopefully it's nothing. original.gif

I would choose a different and more supportive OB if I were you.

My DD's last pregnancy by her dates was 6 weeks 1 day when she went for her first scan but there was nothing more than a yolk sac, she went back the next week and she had a 6 week 4 day embryo with a HB.
What happened in that time is hard to understand but apparently she grew 1 week and 4 days in just 6 days.
I am convinced that in the early days of implantation and growth there is a variation in how quickly they grow.
Please do not give up hope, lots of very good luck.

ETA--If this was done on a small scanner in the doctors office it is probably even less cause for concern.

Hi,

I know how stressful this can be and I send you big hugs.

My 2nd bub was like this. I knew my dates etc so when at the first ultrasound he was measuring only 5 weeks 3 days not the 6 weeks 2 days I had expected I was really upset. No baby could be seen just a rather odd shaped sac and I was told not to worry, however the lady who did the ultrasound was also abrupt and not very apprachable which made me feel worse.I got the report and it said probable miscarriage but as it was only early wait and see.

2 weeks later bub had picked up! Measuring a bit closer to dates and a heartbeat, he scared me at EVERY ultrasound with things not quite right etc but now he is a healthy 3 1/2 year old.

Ultrasounds are said to be about 4 days out either way so going by that your baby is still in range.

I hope you can get a positive ultrasound soon.

If it helps, my DD was conceived with IVF and my scan dates didn't match the very exact dates I had from fertiisation/transfer etc.

I just checked on this thread and burst into tears of relief. original.gif

Thankyou so much for all your prompt replies. That is exactly what I needed to hear. (My DH is laughing telling me 'told you" as I kept him up half the night)

I know I need to stop worrying but finding it really hard.

When I had my US at 8 weeks, the technician told me I was measuring at 8w2d, "give or take 6 days". So basically it the variance can be almost a week either way wink.gif

My OB told me bub was growing too slow, a millimetre smaller than he should have been at 8 weeks and I would probably be miscarrying. He's nearly 9 now. original.gif
