We have decided to go on a family holiday next year, most likely in Autumn. We will have a 3.5yo and a 6 month old and
are planning on being away for 3-4 weeks. It wouldn't be a super stingy holiday, but we won't have the budget for a luxury holiday either. We live in Brisbane, so have already done the Gold Coast, theme parks, Fraser/Moreton/Stradbroke islands etc

We have started brainstorming ideas of places we could go. Where would you go?

Sydney.

I've spent alot of time inner city but haven't had the chance to explore the coastal side of things.

I'm a huge fan of Robert G Barretts Les Norton series so one day I'd like to spend a month or so exploring the Sydney suburbs mentioned in the books and also visiting places like Taree and Terrigal.

The blue mountains would be nice too.

Sydney firstly like the PP said and then head north and do that northern coast of NSW.

Sydney to Melbourne exploring the south coast of NSW and then some parts of Vic. We did that over a week prekids but there is a lot to see. i am a big city lover so the idea of a capital city at either end appeals to me.

Autumn might not be the best way north. Still wet season.

Perth down to Esperance would be fabulous but WA is a shock to the system cost wise I found. Margaret River is a great family holiday.

Head north - It's starting to get cooler then, plus stinger season ends in April, and it's the start of the dry season.

Airlie Beach is beautiful & it's quite easy to take day trips out onto the islands.

We spent 2 weeks in tasmania recently and it was absolutely amazing. The natural scenery there is gorgeous, and I just loved how it isnt as busy or fast paced as the rest of australia. I felt like we didnt get to see it all either, so 3-4 weeks would be perfect. Not sure what the weather would be like in autumn though. As for cost, we spent about $6000 for 2 weeks there in peak season, mainly staying in 2 bedroom aparments or holiday house rentals, and we took our car over on the ship. So not cheap, but pretty reasonable for what we got.

Norfolk Island. I have never been there but really want to go.

With 3-4 weeks I probably would go on a bit of a road trip to several places, and spend say 3 days in each.

As for some of the places I have been:

Ocean Grove / Queenscliff in Victoria. Beach holiday, lots of exploring to do, plenty of caravan parks and yet not that far that you couldn't do a trip or two into Melbourne to do some touristy things there.

The Riverlands. Travel along the Murray staying a places like Albury, Mildura, Loxton, Mannum, down to Wellington.

.
