So as my title suggestss I have developed these lovely things this week and just had a couple of questions as I never had them before!!

I have been using proctosedyl (sp?) for almost 7 days now and while the pain has gone it is not getting any smaller.

my question is should it have gotten smaller by now? What are my options for what to do next? The ointment said it should only be used for 7 days.

Oh the joys, have a read of the thread on IBD in pregnancy that's here..

There's the basic advice, no straining and keep stool as loose as possible. 3ltrs of water a day - that's a LOT - measure it. It really helps. Try to get off your pelvic floor when you can, lie down (sitting doesn't count). And apart from that maybe try witch hazel, on a cotton wool ball dabbed or held on the area for a few minutes, as often as you want. You can get it at the chemist normally. I have had a lot of luck with this, and used it for vulval varicosities (same thing, at the front area). Hope that helps!

Have you gotten the cream that's just a pain killer or the one that shrinks as well? They have very similar names but the shrinking one is perscription only and is awesome. The midwives gave me some after DD was born and it worked on those whoppers pretty quickly

have a shallow luke warm bath with a handful of salt, helps amazingly with the pain.

See your GP. They can give you a prescription for something like Scheriproct that actually helps!

Anusol is very good and helps to shrink them down. Available in pharmacy's and some supermarkets

In my limited experience, of 2 pregnancies, despite not being constipated and doing my best to avoid haemerhoids during each pregnancy by taking metamucil, lots of water etc. I developed enormous ones. I tried lots of the remedies, nothing worked. None of the creams helped to reduce the size, as they were caused by the pressure of the baby in the pelvic area. With my first pregnancy, when I told my ob, he said he wasn't surprised, as i was carrying low, apparently.The only thing that got rid of them was having the baby! Unfortunately I'm now left with a skin tag hope you have more success than me!
