This week the kids school are getting there yearly school photos done.

Today I went to hand in the money to pay for photos that will take place on Thursday. I was told by office staff and the principle (who was standing there at the time) that they could not accept the money as the photo company told them that it must only be handed to them from the children themselves as money may go missing and it could be the staff who stole it. This includes prep and kindy students.

I was gobsmacked. Who would you entrust with money a teacher or your 4 and 6 year old child?

Sometimes I wonder what this world is coming to!

This has been standard procedure at our school for the past few years.

Students must bring the money/envelope in on the day and are nt allowed to give it to the teacher.

Ours do online ordering, so no (actual) money required.

Thats incredibly sad that they wouldnt trust the office staff or teachers. We had ours in to the office and it has to be in the week before photos. So they know which kids are having siblings shots.

i do all my ordering online - infact they encourage it by providing a free digital pic.

Really? It may be a form of self protection for teachers to not want the responsibility of handling the money but I would rather take my chances with an adult than a child when handling that money.

It's a sad state of affairs if someone you entrust your child's care and education to can't be trusted to handle payment for school photos in an envelope

It's been like this with my kids' school for several years - and as far as I know it has nothing to do with staff stealing money and everything to do with making the whole process of photographing, ordering, getting the right names to the right photos and so on.

I have no dramas sending the money with my kids - I send tuckshop money and excursion forms and money with them, so it's not really any different.

Very common, our school send out envelopes and on the day your return the envelope and enclose cash, cheque or pr completed C/C slip. The sealed envelope is then handed in to the photo people as each class goes in and they ask that orders for sibling groups etc go with the eldest child.

What happens on the day each class goes through then they relevant captains (house school etc) and then they announce for those families wishing to have family groups to then go through.

Most teachers are pretty good with the younger grades that if on the day you say XXXX has the photo envelope and money they will ensure the child gets it out of the bag....

It is the policy at my daughter's school. I think it has more to do with parents saying they "handed the money in at the office" and staff being blamed for money going missing.

I don't know why some places are still insisting on stupid methods of payment like cash or cheques. Online is really the only sensible way for most things.

our school you must bring the money on the day, i have always got my kids to hand it straight to the teacher as we come in the class and they generally have a box where all photo orders are put in the morning and then are locked up in her cabinet til photo time.
