Does anyone have or know of a teen who is not on Facebook?
Or does your teen be very selective in who they 'friend'?
It seems to me so many young people have huge numbers of 'friends', and then trouble can come from this. Is it a big social no no, to not accept everybody you know or where at the same party with on Facebook?
It seems impossible to say no you cannot use facebook to your teenager, but do some kids choose not to anyway?

eta: I know it is not just a Facebook issue but that it the main social media at this time. It applies to Bebo, myspace and whatever else that was popular or is to come.

My 15yo (almost 16) isn't on FB. A few months ago she was asking about it and considered getting on there but wasn't that fussed about it.
Recently she said she wasn't interested as she can text, email, call, visit or talk to her friends at school.
Fine by me, less drama I think.

There are certainly teens who choose not to.

It really depends on the teen. My daughter is on Tumblr, Skype all the time with friends. Both are FB alternatives (she does not use FB - she is taught in school about the dangers of FB and she and her friends are not on it).

OTOH, my son isn't bothered by all these social media tools at all. That's just the way he is. He's more into books and movies, like me, I'm not into FB at all.

It's still a little way away for us - DS only turns 12 this year and I know he may change his mind over the next year, but he tells me he's got no interest in ever using FB (I don't use it either, nor does his dad). He gets very cranky with people who are constantly glued to their FB.

Have you seen some of the stuff on Tumblr?
Some of it would leave facebook for dead.

Yep, the first pic I saw from a friends DD's Tumblr account was a pretty explicit pic of a guy and girl on a bed.

My 2 stepkids are on Facebook all the time. 16yo girl and 18yo boy.

I hate how they are permanently attached to their phones checking. It drives me bonkers!!
