I'm contemplating getting a new car this year (yay!). I'm not 'into' cars (i.e. no mechanical knowledge), but I like driving something that appeals to me.

I currently have a 2006 Nissan X Trail. I've been 'over it' for a couple of years - there's nothing wrong with it, but it is pretty unexciting.

I'd like to get a Jeep. It's a bit more 'me' I think, but still a suitable family car, and just within the fairly slim budget.

Previously I've had a 1986 Corolla (first car), a mid-90s Corolla, and my dream car, which was a new Mini (but sadly sold due to being completely impractical with young kids).

What do you drive? What have you driven? What's your ideal car?

Currently Citroen C4 Picasso (mini people mover with 7 seats). Good family car with massive boot space.

DH has Honda CRV

I had Honda Jazz as my mummy mobile for two kids

DH had a Holden Astra.

Prior to that I had a 1990 Saab 900 and before that 1974 Volvo. DHs first car was a Ford Laser.

Ideal car would be the top version of my current car with all the added extras. Even if I won $20m that would be my choice. Practical choice for three young kids. I would go overseas and hire a Ferrari for a few weeks for fun though.

Dream Car: Audi A5 - except it won't tow a horse float.
Current Car: 2006 Commodore - great car - indestructable.
Firtst Car: 1964 Ford Cortina bought in 1980 for $400 with 11 months rego. It died a week before rego was due.

is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?
'76 Ford Escort
'82 Ford Telstar
'98 Holden Astra

Lived overseas for a few years and didn't have a car

'99 Mitsubishi Lancer
2011 Honda Oddyssey.

I've also driven DH's cars:
'81 Holden Camira
'87 Ford Falcon

Not to mention sundry Holden Commodores and Toyota Hiluxes as work vehicles.

What sort of Jeep are you looking at? I'm not a fan of 4x4s on tarmac, I find them bouncy and thirsty, but friends of mine love theirs and wouldn't trade them for my people mover in a pink fit.

With the 4 kids, my Oddyssey would be my ideal car if it had another foot of boot space.

If I was a millionaire, I'd be getting a vintage monstrosity like an Austin Clifton or Jaguar.

My current car is a Mazda cx-9, absolutely love it, and heaps of space for the family and dog (Labrador). The boot space is massive! Prior to this I had an Audi a4 and a Saab 9s. My ideal car would be an Audi q7 with kids, or an Audi q5 without kids original.gif

From each according to his ability, to each according to his nee
About town is a Honda Jazz. We also have an old Kia Sportage for camping/big loads and when we need a second car. I love my Jazz!

First car was a 1984 Ford Telstar that had the driver seat kept upright by a plank of plywood...

Dream car? An MG Midget or some 1960s sports car.

2010 Nissan x-trail. I love it..

I've had a bubble back Laser, a Holden apollo, a Daewoo lacetti, an Xtrail in Nz, and back here again a Holden Captiva.

I like the X-trail out of all of them.

Current: Mitsubishi ASX (love!)

First: '89 Mitsubishi Colt. You had to thump the dash to get the dashlights to turn on, but damn I loved that car!

Dream: Hmm, maybe a fancy European SUV... Volvo or something?

My car is a Honda CRV - love it! Nice and roomy with our 2 kids although I would go to a larger size SUV if we had a 3rd.

I am in love with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, but can't justify the need for one to DH as our current car suits all our needs so well rolleyes.gif That or a Mercedes SUV

DH has a Mazda Bravo dual cab - soon to be upgrading to a new Isuzu ute or Holden Colorado, only because the bravo is getting old and starting to cost a bit of money.

First cars for us both were commodores - mine a VK Calais and his an SS.
