Well, I've been craving thickshakes but know that soft serve is a no go. Was going past a Wendy's store yesterday and asked if they make their shakes with softserve- Yes. Asked if they can make it with icecream instead- Told me yes, there is just a 60c per scoop charge. I was fine with that, as long as I got my thick shake with no soft serve original.gif Upon making the shake, the lady asked me if there was a particular reason I didn't want soft serve. I was a bit puzzled and hesitantly told her I was pregnant (I'm only 10 weeks so haven't said that outloud much!). She then said that's fine, there is no extra charge for using icecream instead, she said it's just an awkward question to ask people!!

Made my day original.gif Go Wendy's!

New Zealand Natural made me a chocolate thickshake with icecream the other day. I don't think they even have soft serve there. I've had them a few places, I just go to shops that make their own icecream or don't have soft serve. original.gif

You'd want to ensure they'd properly washed the milkshake blender in between times, too (not just swizzed it in some water like most places do) otherwise listeria can be transferred from a previously made soft serve shake to your scoop shake.

Same with the ice-cream scoop they use. You'd want to see them using a brand new clean scoop for each client, not a scoop dumped into a bucket of water with a few others each time.

But why would they use a scoop for soft serve? It comes straight out of the machine.
I assume Wendy's use regular milk in their shakes and they're not pre-prepared like McDonalds and hungry Jacks? The Maccas & HJ thick shake mix is essentially a liquid version of soft serve so that's also on the do not consume list.

I'm with the PP - I would make mine at home.

If they don't use a scoop for soft serve, then it comes from a machine, right? The listeria risk is because of the use of the machine. Listeria can build up in the machine. Hence why it's not advisable to drink fresh squeezed juice or frozen yoghurt.
