Hi, I just started making candles for family and friends and I need some hints on a couple of problems i am having. I am using soy wax ..

1. My candles smell nice but I am not getting much (if any) of the smell when they burn.
2. When using clear glass they seem to have wet spots on them.
3. Is soy wax ok to use for making melts ?
4. At what temp are you putting in your fragrance and do you use essential oils or fragrance oils ?

Sorry for so many questions but it's driving me crazy !

I'll reply and bump your thread but don't have any advice - only that I have bought a bunch of homemade candles online and a markets over the past 12 months and been disappointed with the strength of the scent of all of them. They all smell nice enough when they arrive, some event smelt VERY strong, until I burn them, when I smell nothing! Hopefully someone can help

How much fragrance oil are you using? I use about 10ml to about 1L of melted wax. Gives me plenty of scent throw when burning.

Wet spots - never had them, although I dont think they are anything to worry about as my very expensive Glasshouse candle has them. I think it may have to do with the ambient temp when made.

Melts - sorry cant help there, but I think you have to add something to them.

Temp - I put the fragrance oil in just before I pour, so at about 70 degrees C. I use fragrance oils as I only like Vanilla scented ones.

What wax are you using? I believe some waxes (probably harder ones?) are more susceptible to wet spots. I use Golden Brands Container Soy GW464 and dont have an issue.

Also, is it possible the glass isnt totally clean? They usually have a filmy stuff on them when I get them that I have to wash off first.

Yes I'm using soy wax ... I have been cleaning the glass before and have even tried pouring at high temps and lower and nothing seems to help..

At what temp do you add your fragrance and then pour ? I have been told to add at higher and lower temps - very conflicting advice

I add the oil and pour at about 70-72 degrees. Maybe try pouring some at higher temp and then some at lower and see if there is any difference.

Thanks If You Say So, will give this a try today and let you know how I get on... one other question to you heat your glasses before pouring ? I have read this might help the wet spots ..

I have tried heating the glass, but it didnt make any difference to me. Nor did cooling them slower in a warmed oven. That only created more of the white frosting stuff on the outside.
