My 16 month old DS has finally weaned.
We were down to one feed at night for a few days and then he stopped. He hasn't had a feed for 4 day. My breasts are feeling a bit hard, but I don't know if it has something to do with being pregnant. I have never been able to express anything but I don't want to get mastitis (although I've never had it before). Is there anything I need to do? Or is stopping enough? |

The link below is about comfort measures during weaning.
With dd once I was down to one expression a day (she wasn't bfing) I could just go cold turkey so I'd just let your breasts lett you what to do, ie if they are comfortable then let them be or express a little for comfort (hand expressing may work better). http://kellymom.com/ages/weaning/wean-how/weaning_mom/ All the best. |

In my case we were having one morning feed every second day or so. After the last feed I ended up quite engorged. I was surprised since I'd never experienced this early on when my milk was supposed to 'come in'.
My breasts felt so excruciatingly sore and tender, with some really hard lumps that were obviously full ducts. After leaving it as long as I could bear, in the shower I just pressed a flat open hand against the hard/sore parts. The milk just squirted out like you wouldn't believe. One go at doing this was enough, and that was it. Hope this helps. |

I weaned DD#1 when I was 12 weeks pregnant, from memory I was waiting for my boobs to get rock hard but they never did they did get very full though ......I think they leaked pretty bad overnight into my pj top but other than that my body just seemed to be ok with it (we were only feeding once or twice a day)....
Congratulations |

Thank you! I can't believe he weaned all by himself! It's been one hell if a journey but I seriously thought he was going to be breast feeding forever.
Now that we've finished breastfeeding I'm actually really relieved its over! |

just be aware that he might want to start again after the baby arrives. My DD stopped for a few days when I was pregnant, but is now back to feeding once a day.

Really? Even in 5 months time? I hadn't thought about that! I'm not sure about 5 months but I weaned my DD 6 weeks before my twins arrived and sure enough I quickly had to go from tandem feeding to triple feeding, it got too much and I weaned her again but after 3 months with DD going up to other mothers who was BFing, waiting for a chance, I put her back on!. But each time the weaning came from me not my DD so your DS might be fine. When I eventually weaned all 3 I just took regular showers and after 5 days, no issues. |

I weaned my 17 month old at around 8 weeks preg. We were only feeding once before bed and my supply was dropping anyway. I didn't have any boob issues although in the last week I think I've gone up a cup size randomly!!
Hope you're not too uncomfy. I'm a bit worried my DS will want to feed again once the baby arrives but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it |
