If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
I'm looking at buying a new couch. We currently have a 2 seater. DH and I never sit and watch tv or movies together as we're not into that.

I use the couch more than DH because I like watching tv.

We currently have one DS and another on the way.

So I was thinking of getting a 3 seater couch, as our room is small and I didn't like having 2x 2 seater couches in it as there was hardly any room. But my friend thinks I should get enough seats for the number of people living there and have spare seats to accommodate guests.

I should add, we also rarely have guests over so don't do any entertaining.

What do you think? Does your couch accommodate your whole family and guests?

Mine does, it's modular, L shaped with 4 seats each side and a chaise. It's freakin huge !

Mine does, also an L shaped monster but fitting everyone on it wasn't a consideration when we bought it. All I thought about was 'is it comfy' and 'can I lie down and stretch out on it'!

Ours does. There's only 3 of us, but we bought our two 3 seater couches with the idea that DH and I both like to lie down when watching TV, so we wanted a couch each! As it happens, DH likes lying on the floor and we rarely have the TV on now, as we don't want DS watching it, plus we're too busy doing other things.

Yes it could, if we all sat upright, not lounging about comfortably though.

sanity is over-rated
we have a 2.5 seater sofa and 2 recliners... its more than enough for our house usually and in truth we are rarely all sitting in the lounge together.

We live in a town house, so we are happy to fit a three seater (for the 4 of us). If we are all in the lounge area, someone generally sits on the floor.

If we have guests, we drag over computer chairs, it is all very classy laugh.gif

We just can't fit anything bigger, so we don't.

Well we obviously fit on our couch as there are only two of us!

But I did specifically buy a big three seater with wide comfortable arms. If needs be 5 people can sit on that couch!

Ours does - 1 x 3 seater and 1 x 2 seater and an ottoman, for 2 adults and 2 kids, but only as we have the room. If we didn't have the room I'd get whatever fitted in the space and a couple of bean bags or ottomans or something for the extra people.

It's nice to have enough seating, but I think having something that looks good in the space is better. You do have to look at it every day and in our experience it is very rare for everyone to be sitting in the living room.

That being said, we have one large room with comfy seating for 11 if we lounge and another room that will is set up to only comfortably seat four. When we are having a party everyone ends up congregating in the smaller room and the large room that was actually designed for entertaining gets ignored.
