Dear Friends



I am shifting to Canberra on 27 March 2013 with my husband and 6 years old boy.


I would appreciate if you all guide me for the schools and the suburbs ...We are looking for homes in Kaleen and Turner area as the public schools there are the best as per the Govt. website http://bettereducation.com.au/school/Prima...ool_rating.aspx . Please correct me if I am wrong.

I know Kaleen suburb is a family friendly area...bt m nt sure about Turner...plz suggest me whoch suburb and which school will be best...my little one is very shy and hesitant and might take ages to open up ...bt otherwise he has been always good in his class and won several prizes in school...

Your valuable advice will be appreciated...might have another couple of questions 2 ask..

Hi Charu,

A few quick questions that will help decide schools (and therefore locations).

What ages are your kids (like lower/upper primary), about to hit HS, HS or College (yr 11 & 12). At the moment I am assuming Primary.

Are you planning on moving in a few years, or staying there for 10 or 20? The right college is more important than PS, especially with the ACT senior program, so if you are not moving, look ahead.

Do you want to go into the private system? Waiting lists are long, so do that first if you want to.

Do any of your kids have specialist needs, such as disabilities, gifted, drama, languages or sport?

Kaleen is a lovely area, and there is a family GP there with open books (a rarity in Canberra). It feeds into Kaleen HS (and Gininderra College). Turner is an older neighborhood, and has an older demographic, so more retirement aged and less kids than the younger suburbs. It is also more expensive than other areas due to the proximity to the city. Turner PS is a feeder for Lyneham HS (and therefore Narrabundah College), which are both excellent government schools.

My little one is approx 6 years...he will go to primary school i guess...he will be 6 yrs on 1 st June 2013...

We plan to stay in Australia as long as possible ...

We r searching homes in Kaleen and Turner area...bt nt finding any good one in Kaleen ...my hubby might not stay with us for the time being so don wan a big house..


And Turner area ...m bit confused about it...

When we went to Canberra first time...we saw the Public Library in Gungahlin ...do they have such libraries in every suburb ?

This is a few months old now so you have probably found your home. I live in Kaleen and my children attend Kaleen Primary. Just to clarify Elizabethany's response Lyneham High feeds to Dickson College not Narrabundah.
