We have no power and according to our neighbour it won't be back on for another couple of days. We have a generator so we have limited use of appliances.

It is DD7's 8th birthday tomorrow and I want to make her a cake. We are cut off due to flood waters for another couple of days so would like to make something a little special for her. I have a gas cook top but the oven is hard wired and it isn't working.

Can I cook a cake in a pan on the stove top? I was thinking of a double boiler type set up, propping the smaller cake tin on something so that it isn't sitting directly on the heat. Do you think this would work? Would I be better off cooking it over low heat or high?
She wants a chocolate cake, a giant chocolate brownie to be specific lol.

I'm sure people used to do 'cakes' in the electric frypan when they were the in thing - so if you have a nice heavy pot (cast iron?) I bet it would work.

Wanders off to google..

You can bake a cake in a slow cooker, so stove top should be fine! I don't have a recipe for a chocolate cake, but I do have a favourite for a lemon cake done in the slow cooker that does work on stove top as well.

I'd use a large pot and place the cake tin on a trivet inside the pot to stop the bottom burning.
