This may be a stupid question but I'm not sure...my MIL made a fruit cake for us and it has rum in it (enough that I can smell it). She gave a piece to my DDs (3yrs and 16 months). They loved it but I'm not sure if it's something they really should be eating. Does the alcohol cook out of it?

I believe that most of the alcohol will cook out of it, but some people do soak the cake in alcohol after cooking as well.....

I wouldn't worry at all. Generally cakes don't have a heap of alcohol in them, and what is in there normally mostly or all cooks out. The amount of alcohol in each piece would be negligible.

I'm pretty sure the alcohol cooks out, however I do remember reading on EB that sultanas are evil incarnate. I'd abstain from fruit cake, just in case. wink.gif

haha i was comimg in to say this! if sultanas are bad can you imagine the repercussions for fruitcake?!!with alcohol?!!! im surprised there's no yoghurt...
