SIL has her shower next weekend!! I was going to get her a super nice nappy bag, but many experienced EB'ers advised not such a good idea .. Thank you original.gif
Does etiquette dictate you buy a gift for the mum? Or the baby?

My favourite gift was a Babies Go Pearl Jam CD - they have heaps of bands: http://www.babykingdom.com.au/shopdisplayp...Yes&sppp=12

Since having the bub, the things I would now buy for another parent are a Love to Dream swaddle (has given us a few hours more sleep every night!), The Wonder Weeks book, or Pricilla Dunstan's baby language DVD. All life changers for us.

My most used gifts were a small portable change mat, and a pack of white terry nappies. Not for use as nappies, but they were great as towels, spew rugs, bunny rugs etc.

"Luxury" baby blankets, baby books. I have always bought a present for the baby, I have never even thought of buying a present for the Mum!

I LOVE Pearl Jam - What is the Babies Go Pearl Jam CD?

Then again... do we really want babies thinking mummy could have found a Better Man? Or this might be their Last Kiss? I just hope the recipient's name isn't Jeremy. We all know how that's gonna turn out. wink.gif

Lol! It's instrumental lullaby versions of some of their songs. We gave the Metallica one too.

The brainwashing starts young...

I got a gift of some cash so I could pamper myself before the baby came along. I was under orders to use it to do something for myself - haircut, wax, massage, mani/pedi.. whatever.

I thought that was a lovely thought, so I would give a voucher for a beauty place so your SIL could do the same. I got cash because I lived in a different place to the giver, so she didn't know where I would normally get my hair done or any other service.

I've also heard the They Might Be Giants have a few great kids CDs too.

Terry towel nappies to use as rags. Best. Gift. Ever.

Also - we found the book 'save our sleep' pretty handy too.

One of my favorite gifts was a small handmade type notebook that all those present wrote in thoughts, quotes and affirmations etc in. I also loved getting things for bubs that were bigger than new born size as it is awesome when bubs has a growth spurt and you know that you still have nice new gifts still to go through. A small gift for mum is nice as well

The other thing is the ONE GIFT I truly cherished, adored loved etc when I was in hospital was a basket of FOOD.. It had things like chocolate, biscuits, freddos, jelly beans cans of soft drink, etc which were awesome when the middle of the night munchies hit or when DH and the kids were visiting.

I always get a memory box for all the little baby things. My mum bought me one and it was great. I still use it to put in special pictures and cards.
