I purchased an item on eBay on 12 Feb, paid same day, marked as posted on 14 Feb with a tracking number supplied by seller. They are interstate. The item hasn't arrived yet which in itself isn't a concern, but when I check the tracking number with Aust Post it comes up as status "No events currently found".

Have questioned the seller and they said it is the correct tracking ID and just to wait until next week as items often take a bit longer to arrive from where they are.

Do you suppose it could be that the seller has recorded a bogus tracking ID because they sent it regular mail to save money? Or worse? Or am I doing something wrong on the Aust Post website?

I wouldn't panic just yet OP. I've had many a parcel arrive through Australia Post where the tracking has never shown up anything. They can miss scanning parcels in sometimes. I've also had a parcel go missing only to suddenly appear in their system a week later. Since they're interstate I'd give them a few more days.

Australia Post can be pretty slack with scanning in parcels, but even regular post from regional Vic to WA (for example) is usually only 5-6 days. How far was it going? I think there may be still mail hold ups in QLD if that is relevant.

Mine always shows up with the same comment. Its silly how they do it - but to answer your question I'd say its fine and all on track still

It was from rural NT to Sydney so I'm not overly worried about the time it is taking, I just got a bit worried when the tracking ID didn't show up on the Aust Post website.

You could always call Aus Post customer service. I have always found them very helpful.

Also, if the parcel goes via QLD, then there will be delays due to the rain. Both major roads have flooding in parts so that will add to the delivery time.

We use Aust Post at work and send around 700 articles a week from our stores.

As Aust Post pick up directly from our stores they do not scan the parcels until they arrive at the customer's local DC for delivery.

Drives me batty and I must type out the above statement 20-30 times a week . Also Aust Post can take 6-8 business days to deliver a registered mail item from Sydney to Perth as a majority of their mail is shipped by road and train.

Saying that though, I would ask the seller to lodge an investigation with Aust Post. You can check the estimated delivery times on Aust Post by 'calculating postage'. If you fill in some dummy measurements and the post codes, it will tell you how long the parcel should take.


ETA. Just saw your update. In this case it can take up to 12-14 business days, depending on how rural the sender was. Some areas only have pick ups/deliveries once a week.

Rural nt from Queensland takes roughly 2 weeks so I would give it this week and start chasing it up Thursday or Friday.
I send mail regularly to my mum in nt. very rarely will it arrive before the 2 weeks.

Also if it was in a satchel and put in the post box and not dropped off at the post office, it is only trackable when it's with the driver ready to deliver that day.

I found this out the hard way when I had a customer being very rude and abusing me. Claiming I hadn't posted her item. Only for it to show up 5 days later.

If you call (or go into aus post) give them the number they may have more luck at telling you where it is, rather than the website.

I had a parcel sent from overseas, took almost 2 months to arrive, when I put the tracking number into the auspost website I got nothing, I went into auspost to query it the next day (I have a post box so needed to be there) it showed where it was.

I'd think though from rural NT to sydney you may have a longer wait for it.
