I highly recommend 'The Midwives' a documentary on the ABC on Thursday nights.

Episodes 1 and 2 are online.

Agreed. It shows them under incredible pressure, in ratios and sheer volume of patients. I woud hate to be a number in that system. It portrays less of a one-on-one midwife-patient relationship than One Born Every Minute, and much more about pressure on the working day of a midwife or matron.

I don't belong in here but I have been watching.

How cute was the midwife that had just graduated? I was so proud of her!

its awesome. i love the births on one born every minute but i love the pressure and reality of the midwife.

i wish our teaching was hospital driven. those training midwives will have so much experience under their belts before they graduate.

I love it and I know it is about the midwives, but I would love to see them teaching the mums to breastfeed the babies.

I am really enjoying it too. One of the first year students, Chloe I think, seems really confident and mature for her age.

I really didn't like the midwive with the short blonde hair at the beginning of episode 1. I understand you need to be firm but she was downright rude. I think someone having #5 knows when they are in labour!!!!

That's what I love about my course - its a 'clinical school model', so from week 4 of the semester we are in the hospital 2 days a week.
Next semester it goes up to 3 days a week and in the final semester we will be full time, mirroring a real nursing roster (including nights)
