My 13 year old son has been becoming increasingly agitated and quick to anger over the last two months or so and has also become very vague and absent minded. Tasks that normally take 10-15 minutes are taking 2-3 hours with lots of reminding on my part and often a complete breakdown on his.

I know this all sounds very "typical teenager" but yesterday we hit an all time low: he and his brother (10) had an argument and he stormed into his room yelling and screaming and punched through his window.

Today we went to the GP to get a referral to a psychologist and a plan of what to do. The GP was more than happy to do the referral and agreed that it was a good course of action to take but also advised that the waiting time would be between 4-6 weeks.

We came home and had a long talk about how he is feeling both physically and emotionally and what he described to me is exactly the same as I am when my anxiety is peaking.

Now my question is: Do I make another appointment with the GP or do we wait to see the psych?

Not sure how you feel about medication, or indeed whether it is even appropriate but if you are really concerned, could the GP prescribe a very light anti-anxiety med that could tide him over?
