I'm not TTC at the moment but I wasn't sure where else to ask :-)

My breastfed DD is almost 10 months and AF is yet to return. However I had had weeks of discharge, multiple times a day, like I get when I'm either ovulating or pregnant. I've had a few instances (for a few days) of this in the last few months but nothing seems to have come from it (one time I thought I would use OPKs to see if I was ovulating, and they were very negative).

The continual nature of it has been questioning whether perhaps I could be pg (usually when I O the discharge lasts for a few days, when I am pregnant it lasts for the whole 9 months!) I certainly don't remember this happening when AF returned after DS was born. However DH and I DTD so infrequently that I would be amazed if I am pg. I haven't had any cramping like I've had in previous pgs either.

I don't have any HPTs in the house and just can't bring myself to buy one because it is probably nothing - unless someone can convince me otherwise! Or you can just tell me that my body is trying very hard to O....

Some other interesting facts - in all of my pregnancies so far the only symptoms I've had are a missed period, some mild cramping and discharge so I don't have anything else to go off, and with DS my period returned at 8.5 months (although I know it can vary between children).

you can fall pg while breast feeding. give it another 2 weeks the do a test

I am experiencing the exact same thing DS is 9 months still breastfed and no return of AF. I am also getting a lot of discharge that is very reminiscent of pregnancy discharge. I also don't remember this happening with DD and my period returned around this time and I was pregnant the next month. We have been using condoms for contraception so I was very confused but I ended up relenting and doing a test and BFN ( I think DH would of been chasing down the milk man if it turned out to be a BFP, lol).

So I think it may just be our bodies gearing up for AF or it could be a pregnancy there is only one way to find out.

I thought that if you were pregnant an opk would read as positive as HCG and LH are structurally very similar chemical compounds. (not speaking from experience though)

Very similar situation here. My breastfed dd is 10 months. About a month ago I started getting lots of cm. Some ewcm. I have done a few tests, all bfn.

It may just be our bodies getting ready to start o again. I also stopped taking the minipill maybe a month ago so thought that might be a factor. I was sure I o'd over 2 weeks ago (ewcm and pain) but no AF yet and no bfp.

I'm just waiting it out, will test again next time I want to have a drink lol. If there's no big problem if you are pregnant, medications to stop taking etc, I wouldnt bother buying tests. It won't hurt to find out in a few weeks.

Also I've heard that about opks too RainRain.

Thanks for the tips everyone :-) I think I may need to go buy a HPT...I just did an OPK and it came up very positive (the test line was much darker than the control line) almost instantly. Of course I could be just about to O.

I am a little bit scared....

It's really common to have ovulation-like symptoms for a few months before your period returns, as your body is gradually warming up to be able to ovulate but doesn't quite have enough hormones to get the cycle going properly (ie ovulate then have period).

Having said that, it's also very usual to ovulate before your period returns so even if you've had irregular sex, if it was unprotected then there is a chance that you're pregnant.

I'd recommend that you get a couple of pregnancy tests. Test today then in another couple of weeks to be sure. I'd also suggest that, if your tests are negative and if you don't want to get pregnant at the moment, that you explore some breastfeeding-friendly and reliable forms of contraception (mini-pill, implanon, condoms, etc).

Thanks for the advice noi-mnot. I was on the minipill while bfing DS and I actually have a few months of script left in the bathroom cupboard that is not out of date so I think if I get a BFN I will definitely start using it. I wasn't using contraceptives because I thought I would be happy to have another baby whenever it happened, but now that this has happened and I have seen the way I have reacted I have to say I am probably not ready and should start using them!

I guess OPKs can work like HPTs...
