Hello! I'm not sure if you can tell from this sonogram photo because I have no idea what I'm looking at lol, but I was just curious if anyone agreed or disagreed with the boy guess! I know that 12 w is early to tell so I'm not painting any rooms blue, but now I am super curious!

First of all, did she just come out and say "I think it's a boy" or did you ask her to guess?
From what I've heard, it's obvious when there's a boy on the screen, and can be told earlier on. I doubt she would have guessed a boy if she wasn't pretty sure. I'm not the best help coz I have no idea but if a sonographer guessed at my 12w scan that I was having a boy I'd be believing it was a boy.. Congrats xx |

They've done studies on this.
Across the board, accuracy at 12 weeks is about 52% - so marginally higher than just guessing! Some sonographers will obviously be better than others, but even still I wouldn't pay it too much attention! That long white thing is probably the cord. |

Also remember all babies have a nub at the beginning which can identify wrongly as being a boy. I wouldn't be holding my breath that they were correct just yet. It's hard to tell with 12 week scans because of the nub id be waiting until 20 weeks.

our sonographer guessed 65% boy at 12w3d. it was christmas eve and we asked expecting to be shot down like we were at 12 weeks with the girls, but she must have been feeling charitable. she didnt guess from the nub, she actually went in for the potty shot and was looking at the shadows or whatever on the genitals. apparently they have to guess sometimes for a particular genetic disorder.
so after hearing this i seriously sent myself crazy trying to find other images that looked like ours and booked in for a gender scan at 16+1. gender scan said boy. then we had our morph scan last week. no doubt about it now, definately a boy! i think take any guess made at 12 weeks with a grain of salt. it really is too early to be certain about anything |

Well it's still pretty much a 50/50 guess. That's way too early to tell I think.

Thanks everyone!! When I went in for the sonogram the sonographer kept accidentally saying "he"... "He is really moving" - "he looks great." Etc.
I said "I am so sorry, but do you know the sex of the baby? We are going to find out anyways so it's ok to tell me!" That's when she said she doesn't like to say because it is so early, but that she would be surprised of it wasn't a boy. She then asked me to make sure she did my 20 week sonogram. Probably to see if she was right lol! It's so funny... I never cared with our first 2, but her guessing is making me crazy to find out haha! Thanks again!! |
