As title suggests DD has had diarrhea since Saturday. It has been happening every 20 or so minutes. I use sudo cream every nappy change and change nappy as soon as she soils it but the rash is still there though not too bad now. I took her to the doctor yesterday and he said it's not teething and must be a viral infection. Didn't give medication but said if it doesn't clear up by Friday to bring her back.
She is still sleeping ok, wakes up with a soiled nappy though. Has any ones child had this before? I thought it should be clearing up by now. She does eat some solids but while this is happening she has gone right off food and only wants milk. Formula fed. |

OP, if you wait till Friday, that's a long time for your very little one to be constantly pooing.
I think, when my LO had terrible diarrhea I was told that the treatment for a kid was the same as for an adult - my gp said that the tummy had been irritated and needed a break - ergo, minimal food and electrolytes. I know it's tough and I'm not saying it was the right course of action, but I was told to only give it 24 hours to start improving. A week sounds like a very long time - I would gt a second opinion. Good luck |

Could it be Rotavirus? If you are into home remedies you could infuse some raw garlic in olive oil and apply it to her feet, keeping it in with gladwrap and socks for a couple of hours. The skin absorbs the anti-viral properties and it has worked really quickly for me in the past. You can also google this remedy. I have heard of the garlic burning some children's feet but that has never happened with me, I always put a lot of olive oil. Also for the nappy rash I have found Bepanthen to work really well, especially if you make sure the wet ones are completely dry from the skin before applying the cream. My son was the same, only wanting milk when he doesn't feel well. Hope DD feels better soon.

Oh It does sound like rotavirus I think. Just looked up what it is and it's pretty similar. Says 4-8 days of diarrhea. Oh joy. I am keeping her fluids up so she doesn't get dehydrated.
Thanks for the replies. |

I'd also consider getting in contact with your GP earlier than Friday if you have any concerns for the health of your baby.
You could also ring the 24 hour Health line in your State, there is a pinned thread in this forum which has all of the phone numbers. All the best. |
